The University of South Australia (UniSA) is one of the five major polytechnic universities in Australia, located in Adelaide. In 1991, at the initiative of Hon. Mike Rann MP, Minister of Employment and Continuing Education of South Australia (later the Premier of South Australia), the South Australian Institute of Higher Education, founded in 1856, and the South Australian Institute of Technology, founded in 1889, were merged to form the University of South Australia.
