Application for Release Letter
Application for Release Letter
What is a Release Letter?
A Release Letter is a written document issued by the original school that certifies a student's eligibility to transfer to a new educational institution. It confirms the termination of the student's contract with the original school and permits the transfer. Schools generally do not issue a Release Letter without a compelling reason.
Important Notes
A Release Letter directly affects a student's current visa. For instance, a student transferring from a bachelor's degree to a TAFE course will need to reapply for a student visa. Therefore, students must not skip the release letter process when transferring, as it could lead to serious consequences such as visa cancellation and difficulties with visa renewal.
When is it needed?
A release letter is only required if the student has not completed six months of their principal course. If the student has studied the principal course (usually the final course in a package) for six months or more, a release letter is not needed. The six-month period is calculated from the start date indicated on the Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).
