Job Description

  • Assisting in formulating budgetary and accounting policies
  • Preparing financial statements for presentation to boards of directors, management, shareholders, and governing and statutory bodies
  • Conducting financial investigations, preparing reports, undertaking audits and advising on matters such as the purchase and sale of businesses, mergers, capital financing, suspected fraud, insolvency and taxation
  • Examining operating costs and organisations' income and expenditure
  • Providing assurance about the accuracy of information contained in financial reports and their compliance with statutory requirements
  • Providing financial and taxation advice on business structures, plans and operations
  • Preparing taxation returns for individuals and organisations
  • Liaising with financial institutions and brokers to establish funds management arrangements
  • Introducing and maintaining accounting systems, and advising on the selection and application of computer-based accounting systems
  • Maintaining internal control systems
  • May appraise cash flow and financial risk of capital investment projects

Eligibility Assessment

  • Nominated occupation must fall under the following accounting-related ANZSCO codes:
    • 221111 – Accountant (General)
    • 221112 – Management Accountant
    • 221113 – Taxation Accountant
  • Must have completed an Australian bachelor's degree (or an equivalent overseas qualification). The major must be in Accounting and include the required 9 core courses.

Assessment Steps

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7) or higher.
  • The degree must be primarily in the field of Accounting.

(Must be completed at undergraduate or postgraduate level; bridging courses required if not met)

English Language Requirements

If the degree was not completed in Australia, UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, or New Zealand → English test scores required:

  • IELTS Academic: Overall score ≥ 7.0, each band ≥ 7.0
  • TOEFL iBT: Overall score ≥ 94, each section ≥ 24
  • PTE Academic: Overall score ≥ 65
  • OET: Minimum score of B in each component

Other Requirements

  • Applicants must provide detailed course descriptions (syllabus) for CAANZ to verify if the 9 core courses are met.
  • If some courses are not met, bridging courses must be taken and official transcripts provided.
