The Australian 485 visa (Temporary Graduate Visa) is a temporary visa provided by Australia to international students, allowing eligible graduates to stay in Australia to work, study or travel after completing their studies in Australia. Basic Requirements

  • 1.Be under 35 years of age at the time of application. Exceptions apply.

  • 2.Have held a student visa (subclass 500) in the last 6 months.

  • 3.At the time of application, you must provide proof of having applied for an AFP National Police Check from the Australian Federal Police.

  • 4.Please include proof of English language proficiency in your application documents.

Australia's 485 visa (Temporary Graduate Visa) is mainly divided into three main streams

  • Post-Vocational Education Work stream

    This visa category is for international students who have recently graduated and have qualifications relevant to specific occupations in demand in Australia.

    Application Requirements
    • 1. Holders of the Graduate Work stream can stay in Australia for up to 18 months. Hong Kong and British National (Overseas) passport holders can stay for 5 years.

    • 2. You must be under 35 years of age at the time of application. Hong Kong and British National (Overseas) passport holders must be under 50 at the time of application.

    • 3. Your qualification must be relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list.

    • 4. You must have an associate degree, diploma, or trade qualification that meets the Australian study requirement.

  • Post-Higher Education Work stream

    This visa category is for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution.

    Application Requirements
    • 1. You must be under 35 years of age at the time of application. If you hold a Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport, or are using a Masters (Research) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) to meet the Australian study requirement, you must be under 50 at the time of application.

    • 2. Your most recent degree must be from a CRICOS-registered course.

    • 3. You must meet the Australian study requirement and have obtained a bachelor's degree or higher.

  • Second Post-Higher Education Work stream

    This stream is for temporary graduates who hold a Post-Study Work, Graduate Work, or Replacement visa and have a degree from an Australian institution in a regional area.

    Application Requirements
    • 1. You must be under 35 years of age at the time of application. If you hold a Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport, or are using a Masters (Research) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) to meet the Australian study requirement, you must be under 50 at the time of application.

    The length of your stay (1 to 2 years) depends on:

    1. The regional area of the educational institution where you graduated that qualified you for your first Temporary Graduate visa.
    2. The regional area where you have lived as the holder of a Post-Study Work, Graduate Work or Replacement stream Temporary Graduate visa.

To be eligible to apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485), you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be under 50 years of age
  2. Have held a Student visa (subclass 500) in the last 6 months
  3. Provide proof you have applied for an Australian Federal Police (AFP) check when you apply
  4. Provide proof of the required level of English when you apply
  5. The Graduate Work stream (GWS) of the Temporary Graduate visa is for students who have recently graduated from an Australian institution with skills and qualifications relevant to specific occupations in demand.

  • 1.Complete the 1409 Graduate Temporary Visa Application Form, provide all the required documents and pay the visa application fee. Please use the correct prepaid postage when mailing the form and documents. The following are the mailing and counter submission addresses:

Test
Score
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Overall score of at least 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 for each of the 4 parts.

Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT)
TOEFL iBT tests that were completed between 26 July 2023 and 4 May 2024 will not be accepted for Australian visa and migration purposes. During this period, the TOEFL iBT test being offered was not an approved test.
Total score of at least 83 with a minimum score of:
  • 7 for listening
  • 8 for reading
  • 18 for writing and
  • 16 for speaking.
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic)
Overall score of at least 57 with a minimum score of:
  • 43 for listening
  • 48 for reading
  • 42 for speaking and
  • 51 for writing.
Occupational English Test (OET)

At least B for each of the 4 parts.

Cambridge C1 Advanced test

Overall at least 176 with a minimum score of at least 162 in each of the 4 test components.
