Job Description
- Acting as a facilitator between clients in need and community services
- Assessing resources for health, welfare, recreation, housing, employment and other community services
- Providing leadership and assistance for the implementation of pilot projects in community development and self-help, and planning and implementing research projects to address client needs, organisation goals and social policy
- Cooperating with community organisations, social agencies and voluntary groups to improve services and develop new services
- Conducting individual and family case interviews to identify the nature and extent of clients' problems
- Assisting clients to understand and resolve problems by providing information, acting as a mediator and referring them to community and self-help agencies
- Analysing, developing, promoting and implementing social policies through the use of practice experience, research, analytic frameworks, and negotiation skills to respond to social need through a fair, equitable and effective allocation of social resources
- Monitoring the progress of clients by maintaining contact
- Compiling case records and reports

Eligibility Assessment
- Must possess a "professional social work qualification," and overseas degrees must be recognized as a social work qualification in the country where the instruction was provided.
Assessment Steps
- Prepare documents: graduation certificate, academic transcript, course syllabus, internship records, identification documents, translations, etc.
- Register on the MyAASW portal and submit an online application.
- Complete identity verification.
- Submit English proficiency proof or exemption materials.
- AASW compares academic qualifications and learning outcomes, and verifies internship hours.
- Await the assessment result.
Assessment Requirements
- Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, or comparable professional social work qualification.
- The qualification must include no less than approximately 1000 hours of supervised field education, divided into two different placements, with at least one being direct practice.
- If the hours are less than 1000 but more than 500, they can be supplemented with additional relevant study or work experience.
- Work Experience Requirements
- Not mandatory, but any shortfall in practicum hours can be compensated for with post-graduation social work experience.
- Language Requirements
- Must meet the AASW English language policy, typically requiring IELTS Academic: overall score of 7.0, with a minimum of 7.0 in each band (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking).
- Scores from two tests taken within a six-month period can be combined.
- Exemption: Exempt if secondary education and a three-year full-time higher education degree were completed in specific English-speaking countries and taught in English.
