Engineers Australia Skills Assessment

Eligibility Assessment

Assessment Steps

  1. Check your qualification

    • Confirm the type of your engineering qualification: whether it is accredited by Engineers Australia, from an Accord country, or a non-recognised course.
  2. Understand occupational categories & choose your Engineering Occupation

    • Select an Engineering Occupation that matches an ANZSCO category. Confirm your target occupation is on EA's list.
  3. Choose an assessment pathway (Accredited / Recognised / CDR)

    • Choose the pathway based on how your qualification is recognised and its alignment with your occupation. If your qualification is not recognised or your occupation does not match your degree title, you typically need to follow the CDR pathway.
  4. Prepare your application documents

    • Prepare all required documents according to your chosen pathway: degree certificates, academic transcripts, work experience, Career Episodes (if following the CDR pathway), Summary Statement, CPD, English test results, identity documents, etc.
    • Read the "Prepare your migration skills assessment application" guide to ensure your submitted documents meet the format/requirements correctly.
  5. Submit online application

    • Register/Log in to your account on the Engineers Australia application portal.
    • Select the correct pathway/engineering occupation within the MSA program and upload all documents.
    • Pay the assessment fee upon submission.
  6. Wait for assessment and provide additional information (if requested)

    • Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email/account status update. EA will conduct an initial review. If documents are incomplete or some content needs supplementation, they will notify you to provide additional information.
    • Standard processing time is approximately 15 weeks from when it is assigned to an assessor, but this is not the final result time. The total assessment duration depends on document quality and whether additional information is required.
  7. Receive outcome

    • If the assessment is successful, you will receive a Migration Skills Assessment Outcome Letter (in electronic format), which can be used for migration visa applications.
    • The Outcome Letter can be verified online. It is valid indefinitely from Engineers Australia, but visa authorities may have their own timeframe requirements.
  8. Review / Appeal (if necessary)

    • If you are dissatisfied with the outcome, you can apply for a Review within 3 months from the date on the outcome letter. No new material can be submitted.
    • If still dissatisfied after the Review, you can lodge an Appeal within 6 months from the original outcome letter date. The decision after the Appeal is final.

Assessment Requirements

  • Proof of Identity

    • Valid passport bio page or identification document.
  • Academic Qualifications and Transcripts

    • Degree Certificate / Diploma Certificate
    • Transcript showing course content, academic year/semester, and grades for each subject.
    • If applying via the Accredited or Recognised Qualifications pathway, your qualification must be on the recognized list; provide corresponding proof (e.g., whether the program is accredited by an Accord signatory, etc.).
  • Engineering Career & Work Experience / Competency Proof

    • For the CDR pathway: You need to prepare Career Episodes demonstrating how you have applied engineering knowledge and skills in your work. Typically, 3 Career Episodes are required.
    • A Summary Statement must be written, mapping the competencies demonstrated in these Career Episodes against Engineers Australia's competency standards.
    • If work experience is included in the application, supporting documents such as employer reference letters, contracts, or payslips are required to verify the authenticity and continuity of the experience.
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

    • Evidence that you have engaged in ongoing engineering-related updates or learning (e.g., seminars, courses, membership activities). This is particularly important if there are gaps in your qualifications or experience that need to be addressed through CPD.
  • Ethical Standards & Declaration of Authenticity

    • Submitted documents must be genuine; plagiarism is prohibited, and misleading or falsified materials must not be provided. Violations may result in rejection or a ban from applying for a certain period.

Assessment Pathways
