Job Description
- Examining scenes of incidents resulting in insurance claims to determine causes and effects
- Interviewing witnesses and claimants to obtain details required to assess the validity of claims and identify the parties responsible for accidents, damage and loss, and preparing statements and reports
- Inspecting damaged buildings, equipment and motor vehicles and estimating the cost of repairs
- Estimating business losses resulting from fire, theft and other business disruptions
- Reporting the extent of damage and estimated costs to the insurer
- Inspecting property, buildings and operations of commercial and industrial establishments to assess physical conditions and work practices
- Evaluating the adequacy of security, fire and related systems
- Preparing reports and recommending action to reduce risks
- Compiling data which influence the determination of premium rates

Class D Group
Eligibility Assessment
- The declared occupation falls under VETASSESS Group D, and one of the education or employment requirements for the corresponding pathway must be met to receive a positive assessment.
Assessment Steps
- Confirm the nominated occupation belongs to Group D on the VETASSESS website.
- Download and read the occupation Information Sheet/Fact Sheet to understand the definition of highly relevant field and examples of duties.
- Select a pathway (1-4) based on educational background and major.
- Gather educational qualification and employment supporting documents.
- Submit the Full Skills Assessment online and upload all documents.
- VETASSESS reviews the educational level, relevance of the field of study, and the duration, relevance, and timeframe of work experience.
- Receive the outcome letter stating whether it is a Positive Assessment and the Date Deemed Skilled.
Assessment Requirements
- Pathway 1: Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV or higher qualification, majoring in a highly relevant field. Must have at least 3 years of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation, with duties meeting ANZSCO requirements.
- Pathway 2: Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV or higher qualification, majoring in a highly relevant field. Must have at least 2 years of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation.
- Pathway 3: Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV or higher qualification, majoring in a non-highly relevant field. Must have at least 1 year of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation.
- Pathway 4: Hold at least an AQF Certificate IV or higher qualification. Must have a cumulative total of at least 4 years of highly relevant paid employment, with at least 1 year being post-qualification and within the last 5 years.
- Required documents include proof of identity, educational documents, employment proof, English translations, CV, and self-employment related materials (if applicable).
- No uniform English language requirement, but non-English documents must include certified translations.
- All work experience must be paid; part-time work is acceptable but must meet the required hourly standards.
