Job Description
- Assessing clients' needs and planning, developing and implementing educational, training and support programs
- Interviewing clients and assessing the nature and extent of difficulties
- Monitoring and reporting on the progress of clients
- Referring clients to agencies that can provide additional help
- Assessing community need and resources for health, welfare, housing, employment, training and other facilities and services
- Liaising with community groups, welfare agencies, government bodies and private businesses about community issues and promoting awareness of community resources and services
- Supporting families and providing education and care for children and disabled persons in adult service units, group housing and government institutions
- Supervising offenders on probation and parole
- Assisting young people to solve social, emotional and financial problems
- Preparing submissions for funding and resources, and reports to government bodies and other agencies

Assessment Steps
- Register an account on the Community Work Australia portal to access the Skills Assessment Portal. Prepare your online application.
- Select your assessment type (e.g., General Skilled Visa, DAMA, or ACILA).
- Submit required documents, including qualification certificates, academic transcripts, internship/field training reports, proof of work experience (job descriptions, reference/employer letters), identification/passport, and proof of name change if applicable. If documents are not in English, they must be translated.
- Submit English test scores or valid proof of language proficiency.
- Wait for Community Work Australia to review the application. If materials are incomplete or additional information is needed, the applicant will be notified to provide supplementary documents.
- Receive the skills assessment outcome certificate/letter, which can be used for immigration visa application purposes.

Educational Requirements
- Hold a Diploma or higher qualification in social or community services recognized by Community Work Australia.
- Or hold a bachelor's degree (AQF Level 7) or higher assessed by Community Work Australia as a "recognized relevant qualification", with the course majoring in community and human services.
- The Diploma or bachelor's degree program should typically include field placement/practical work experience.
- A maximum of 40% Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) credits is acceptable towards the Diploma or bachelor's degree; otherwise, the qualification may not be recognized.

Work Experience Requirements
- Applicants must demonstrate industry experience and "currency", meaning paid work experience at the skill level of the nominated occupation after obtaining the qualification.
- For holders of a Community Work Australia recognized bachelor's degree or certified qualification, if the field placement/training is sufficient, it may be considered as partial industry experience. Otherwise, at least 1 year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) industry experience within the past four years is required.
- "Currency" requirements:
- Work experience within the past 4 years, or
- At least 6 months of relevant experience within the last 18 months, or
- At least 3 months of full-time (or part-time equivalent) experience.

Language Requirements
- Must demonstrate sufficient English proficiency. Effective August 7, 2025, Community Work Australia has updated the accepted English tests and score requirements.
- Test/score options may include IELTS (overall or individual bands), PTE Academic, CAE/Cambridge Advanced, TOEFL iBT, etc. Specific minimum scores depend on the nominated occupation and category.
- Academic qualifications completed in an English-speaking country (or a country where instruction was in English) may be accepted as evidence of language proficiency.
Assess time and cost
- Processing time (General Skilled Visa occupation applications): Approximately 10-12 weeks, requires submission of complete, decision-ready applications.
- DAMA category assessments take about 6-8 weeks.
- ACILA (Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement) category takes approximately 4-6 weeks.
- Fees vary depending on occupation and assessment type.
