Job Description

  • Attending accidents, emergencies and requests for medical assistance
  • Assessing health of patients, determining need for assistance, and assessing specialised needs and factors affecting patients' conditions
  • Performing therapies and administering drugs according to protocol
  • Resuscitating and defibrillating patients and operating life-support equipment
  • Transporting accident victims to medical facilities
  • Transporting sick and disabled persons to and from medical facilities for specialised treatment and rehabilitation
  • Instructing community groups and essential service workers in first aid
  • Attending public gatherings and sporting events where accidents and other health emergencies may occur
  • Ensuring that ambulances are adequately maintained and stocked with medical supplies, and that equipment is in good working order
  • Preparing written reports on the state of patients' injuries and treatment provided

Assessment Requirements

  • Pathway 1: Hold an AQF bachelor's degree or higher highly relevant to the nominated occupation, with at least 1 year of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation, where the duties and skills meet the ANZSCO standard.
  • Pathway 2: Hold a highly relevant bachelor's degree or higher, plus an additional qualification highly relevant to the occupation, with at least 1 year of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation.
  • Pathway 3: Hold an AQF bachelor's degree or higher in a non-highly relevant major, with at least 2 years of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation.
  • Pathway 4: Hold an AQF bachelor's degree or higher, with a total of at least 4 years of highly relevant paid employment, of which at least 1 year was within the last 5 years after obtaining the qualification.
  • Required documents include proof of identity, educational certificates, employment proof, translations, resume, self-employment proof, etc.
  • There is no unified English language requirement, but certified translations are necessary.
  • Work experience must be paid and meet the standard for valid working hours.
