SCU is notifying you about important changes regarding some of the students you have recruitedwho are enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (GDOT) for Terms 3 and 5, 2025course.

What are the changes?
Due to recent decisions by education authorities in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), New South Wales (NSW), and Victoria (VIC),students currently enrolled in the GDOT program will face placement restrictions in these states. This change is beyond the control of Southern Cross University and directly affects students' ability to complete **mandatory professional experience placements** in their home state.

Student communication:
All affected students have been contacted directly by the university and have received detailed explanation documents and a FAQ (available for reference in the attachment).

The FAQ covers common questions related to teacher registration, placement eligibility, credit transfer, and the process of transferring toMaster of Teaching (MTeach)program.

Student options:
We have provided the following advice to students:

  1. Continue with GDOT — but need to travel to other states for placements (the university will provide limited travel/accommodation support).
  2. Transfer to the Master of Teaching (MTeach) — can complete placements in their home state/territory. The transfer will take place in Term 1, 2026, and completed GDOT units will receive credit.
  3. Decline the GDOT offer and withdraw — prepaid tuition fees will be fully refunded.

Support you can provide:

  • Please familiarize yourself with the attached student FAQ so you can answer student inquiries with more confidence.
  • Encourage students to complete the options form response by the specified deadline.
  • Please reassure students that the university will fully support them through this transition period, including assistance with course transfers, placement arrangements, and eligible refunds.
