The University of Queensland

The Queensland Government has introduced a new policy:From August 5, 2024, the fare for Translink public transport services across Queensland will be uniformly reduced to 50 cents, almost free! This policy will last for six months.Whether you are studying, working, or commuting daily in Queensland, this policy will bring you real benefits!

Significant reduction in transportation costs
More convenient travel for international students
For international students, this policy will bring these benefits:
1. Substantially reduce commuting costs
First of all, for international students who rely on public transport every day, this policy is undoubtedly a great blessing.
Previously, the Queensland Government invested 180 million Australian dollars annually in the 'School Transport Assistance Scheme' (School Transport Assistance Scheme) to ensure that many students can take public transport to school for free every day.Although many students have already enjoyed free transportation through this scheme, there are still some students who are not included in the plan.
Under the new public transport fare policy, all students using Translink public transport services (including students not included in the plan)will enjoy a uniform fare of 50 cents for the next six months, regardless of where you live or how far your daily commute is. This further reduces the transportation costs for students and their families, allowing more students to benefit.
2. Encourage exploring Queensland
Secondly, the reduced transportation costs not only make your commuting easier but alsoencourage everyone to go out and explore more during their spare time. Whether it's exploring beautiful beaches, tropical rainforests, or experiencing the city's hustle and bustle, this is a rare opportunity. Students can take advantage of this policy to experience more of Queensland's charm~
Queensland Minister for Transport and Main RoadsMr. Bart Mellish said:
“
We hope this will provide everyone with a good opportunity to actively use public transport. Whether you're going to Howard Smith Wharves, Surfers Paradise, or Fortitude Valley to spend a pleasant evening with friends, you can walk from home to the nearest train station or bus stop and enjoy a convenient travel experience..
3. Support daily life for international students
Through this preferential measure, the government also hopes to provide more support and convenience for international students, helpingrelieve everyone's life pressure, and allowing them to better participate in various activities, make new friends, and integrate into local life using public transport.
