Article Preface
Recently, the Australian Department of Education announced the latest policy on international student enrollment quotas for 2025, to which Charles Darwin University (CDU) has responded positively. According to the new policy, CDU will receive 2200 new international student enrollment spots in 2025. Although this policy brings more clarity to future enrollment plans, the quota has not fully met the expectations of the Northern Territory and CDU for the growth of international students.

President Interprets the Impact of the New Policy

CDU President Professor Scott Bowman analyzed the potential impact of this policy. He stated that the university is assessing the impact of this enrollment cap on the school's operations and development, especially in the use of the new urban campus and the supply of highly skilled graduates to the Northern Territory's business and industry sectors, such as key areas like nursing and education.

"International students are an indispensable part of our university community, enriching not only our academic environment but also bringing multicultural vitality to the entire Northern Territory," said Professor Bowman. "We will continue to maintain close communication with the government to ensure that the Northern Territory is not disadvantaged in this policy."
02
Strengthening International Cooperation: Expanding the Enrollment Market

To further promote international student enrollment, Professor Bowman will lead a delegation to visit India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka later this month. This visit aims to consolidate CDU's enrollment market in these countries and attract more students to study in the Northern Territory.
He emphasized: "Ensuring that international students continue to choose the Northern Territory and CDU as their preferred destination is our key task. We hope to showcase the advantages of CDU to more students through this visit."

Continuing to Seek Policy Support:
Speaking for the Future of the Northern Territory

In June this year, Professor Bowman went to Canberra to meet with political figures, advocating for the importance of international students to regional universities. He said: "International students bring dual opportunities in education and economy to the Northern Territory, helping us improve the quality of teaching and injecting fresh blood into the local labor market."
CDU currently has about 3500 international students, with 2100 new international students enrolled in 2023. With the arrival of international students, CDU has not only expanded its educational influence but also helped the Northern Territory address talent shortages in key areas such as education, engineering, and healthcare.

Professor Bowman stated that CDU will continue to seek more international student quotas from the federal government to ensure that the Northern Territory can attract and retain more international talents in the future. "Students hope to find ideal jobs in their fields of study, and the Northern Territory urgently needs more graduates to fill skill shortages. We will continue to work for the long-term development of the Northern Territory."
