A detailed guide on how to accelerate your degree and achieve early graduation!
University of Canberra

UC understands that everyone's learning pace is different. Due to changes in life arrangements and future plans, it is very likely that you cannot attend classes according to a fixed semester calendar. It's okay! The University of Canberra (UC) understands the situation of students and has been supporting students in all aspects of life to successfully complete their studies.
At UC, you can choose to accelerate your learning, which means you can select courses at your own pace and manage the course progress according to your needs.
Whether through summer and winter courses or internship programs, UC will share various methods to accelerate your degree, allowing you to maximize the use of semester time and complete your degree early.
Understand your course requirements
Depending on the type of degree you are studying (undergraduate or master's), carefully read and understand the corresponding course structure and graduation requirements. For example,You need to know how many credits are required to obtain the degree in order to better plan your course schedule.
You can find the "Typical Study Pattern" section on the course webpage(highlighted in yellow in the image below)orlog in to the myUC student website,to view graduation qualifications, course guides, and other information.
The more thoroughly you understand the course requirements, the clearer you will be about how to choose courses that meet the credit requirements, so as to graduate on time or even early.
Summer and winter courses
UC offers students the opportunity to participate in intensive courses during the holidays. These courses are usually offered in the winter and summer semesters, starting in May and November respectively.
Students can complete these courses during the holidays, earn extra credits, speed up their learning progress, or help distribute the course load reasonably throughout the year.
These nine-week intensive courses are conducted after the first and second semesters, in the form of intensive, short-term teaching, which is very suitable for students who wish to graduate early or want to study during the holidays.
If you want to take holiday courses, it is recommended that students consult with the teachers in your college first, check if the course schedule is suitable for you, and adjust your study plan.
Internship programs
Internship programs are an important part of most degrees at UC and an excellent opportunity to put theory into practice. Not only can you gain valuable practical experience in the professional field, but it can also provide you with confidence when job hunting and strengthen workplace skills.
CareerHub lists all internship opportunities for UC students, and participating in these internship programs can directly count towards course credits. Scan the QR code below to learn more about UC's internship programs.

Credit transfer
During the application process, students can apply for credit transfer based on courses completed or partially completed at UC or other educational institutions. If successful, it can be directly converted into UC credits, reducing the number of courses required to complete the degree, saving time and tuition costs. Course credits and course exemptions are also applicable to qualifications from other countries recognized by the Australian Government's National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (NOOSR).
Course overloading
If you want to graduate early, students can also consider course overloading. Although a full-time study in a main semester is set at 12 credits per semester, some students may wish to register for additional courses on top of this.
Course overloading is also a great option for students who have completed course prerequisites or are seeking to further improve themselves.
Although course overloading can speed up your learning process, please also seriously consider whether you can bear the corresponding learning tasks before registering for additional courses, especially during the final and exam periods.
Before registering for additional courses, you also need to obtain approval from the UC course coordinator or the deputy dean of the college. Scan the QR code to read more about UC's course overloading policy.
