Dry Season ActivitiesGuide

#Watch the sunrise and sunset at Nightcliff

Go to a place with mountains, water, and scenery

Nightcliff is an area in the north of Darwin, overlooking the ocean. It has become a very popular community, not only for its great weekend market but also for its beautiful waterfront and parks. Darwin's sunsets are spectacular, as is well known. Therefore, many people go there every afternoon when the temperature drops slightly. There, you will find shared walking and cycling paths, as well as plenty of green spaces to lay out a picnic blanket or sit in a camping chair to relax and enjoy the sunset. Some of the best viewing spots include Sunset Park and Nightcliff Jetty.

#The Deckchair Cinema

The Deckchair Cinema is an outdoor cinema on Darwin's waterfront. It is a fully independent cinema operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954 to provide Darwin audiences with films not shown on the big screen. The cinema is located on Darwin's waterfront and is open seven nights a week from mid-April to mid-November. Tickets are available every night at 6:00 PM, and the program covers a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign, and classic films. Everyone can enjoy the sunset over Darwin Harbour before the 7:30 PM screening.

#Visit museums and art galleries

Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is a must-visit for those interested in appreciating Australia's best Indigenous art and learning about Darwin's history. Overlooking Fanny Bay, not far from Mindil Beach, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory is completely free to visit.

#Beach sunset night market

Mindil Sunset Market

One of the most beloved activities during the dry season is the return of the Mindil Beach Sunset Market, along with numerous food trucks along the Nightcliff Foreshore and East Point. The outdoor dining experience is the ultimate!

#Explore Litchfield National Park

Litchfield National Park

Litchfield National Park is definitely one of the highlights of the Northern Territory. The park is 100 kilometers from Darwin and features numerous waterfalls, trails, campgrounds, and swimming pools, all open during the dry season. Litchfield is the traditional home of the Koongurrukun, Mak Mak Marranunggu, Werat, and Warray Indigenous peoples.

You can choose to camp overnight in Litchfield or stay nearby. The best campgrounds in the park are Wangi Falls Campground and Florence Falls Campground, both located next to the two most popular waterfalls.

#Events and cultural festivals

Kindness Festival

Darwin's dry season is the festival season, and everyone will have a full schedule! The 2024 music events have already started at the outdoor theater, with Flight Facilities recently participating, and this is just the beginning! In the coming months, there will be BASSINTHEGRASS, boat parties, Darwin Festival, V8 Supercars, Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, Darwin Cup, Darwin Kindness Festival, and more...!!

We hope students can find activities to relax and decompress amidst their busy studies!
