UOW graduates shine on the renowned show 'MasterChef', both artists and master chefs!
UOW College Australia

Cooking and art seem like two completely different fields, but they can actually be very interconnected. Cooking pursues creativity, the combination of different foods, accompanied by suitable cooking methods, bursts out different tastes and visual effects, which is itself a kind of creativity; turning cooking into art is even more interesting and fulfilling.
Recently, a University of Wollongong (UOW) graduate has attracted widespread attention from local audiences with her outstanding performance on a popular Australian TV show, MasterChef Australia. Her rich multicultural background and her creative arts background at UOW have become key elements in her cooking creative DNA.
She is UOW's creative arts graduate Gill Dinh, who has successfully passed five elimination challenges in the reality show MasterChef Australia (referred to as MC), achieving remarkable results. So how did she perfectly combine creative arts and cuisine? Let's get to know this alumnus!

Gill says food has always been her passion."Growing up, I was always surrounded by the enticing aromas and flavors of Vietnamese and Italian cuisine."Due to the rich flavors of the dishes, trying different ingredients and delving into culinary skills has become Grill's second nature.
The creativity with ingredients has inspired Gill's passion and pursuit for creative work, further solidifying her pursuit of her initial dream!
Gillhas long desired to study atUOW, she recalls:"As early as the ninth grade, I flipped through the University of Wollongong guide and brochures, and was determined to earn a Bachelor's degree in Creative Arts fromUOW."
Apart from daily university studies, what impressed Gill most about UOW was the food. When recalling her expenses at the Wollongong campus, most of her memories were spent on eating. She said: "When I was alone on campus all day, trying to save some money in my pocket was almost impossible." Because the food at UOW campus always kept her from stopping; for example, a Thai restaurant near the school had a must-order dish, Gill would go with her friends every week to order a Pad See Ew, with extra eggs and crispy wings. It was truly unforgettable.
Since2012graduating fromUOW, Gill has turned her passion for art into a career. While aspiring to become a professional lettering artist, it also droveGill to pursue a diploma course in interior design and decoration. She loves transforming rooms, spaces, or venues through art.Additionally, out of her passion,Gill is keen on making event stationery, invitations, signs, and small artworks for friends and family.Gilllater established her own creative studio "The Marker by Gillian Dinh".She admits: "I wasn't quite sure how to turn my passion for art into a career. But I quickly establishedThe Markerstudio, and the rest is about creating the history of this studio."The development of the business and an impressive portfolio brought Gill more business opportunities, as well as large-scale visual branding and signage design projects. Gill believes: "The most valuable part is seeing the impact of murals on the community and passersby. I love bringing art to life in public spaces, making others smile, triggering new topics, or inspiring thoughts, dreams, and creativity through my art."Unexpected success on MasterChef

:"At that time, my sister Mel and I applied to participate in the show, hoping to compete with each other...more for fun."But the result was a bit unexpected,Gill was the only one who passed the audition stage. So far, Gill's time on MasterChef (Sunday to Wednesday nights at 7:30 pm on Network 10) has exceeded her wildest dreams.
