There are only a few days left until2024the Paris Olympics, a globally watched event, and being able to participate in it is an immense honor. For many athletes, competing in the Olympics is the highest honor of their sports career. So, in the Australian Olympic delegation, are there any alumni from the University of WollongongUOW??Let us reveal it to everyone:

In the Paris Olympics, there are two alumni fromUOWselected for the Australian men's hockey team:

Blake Govers
Blakewas born and raised in Wollongong, and this is his third Olympic journey, having previously participated in the2016Rio Olympics and the2020Tokyo Olympics. In the2016Rio Olympics, at the age of18he was the youngest member of all the men's hockey teams.

Blake once played for the University of Wollongong's hockey team, making his international debut at the Hobart International Challenge in May 2015, and scored in his first game. He was soon selected for the national team, representing Australia in the 2015 World League, where Blake proved his potential in the national team during the semi-finals, being named the top scorer and best young player. Blake performed excellently in both the Rio and Tokyo Olympics, winning a silver medal with his teammates in Tokyo, only losing to Belgium in the final on penalties.


Blake's brother Kieran Govers is also a famous Australian hockey player, having won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Flynn Ogilvie
Flynnwas also born and raised in Wollongong, and from the age of4he has loved the sport of hockey. This talented midfielderstarted his career at the University of Wollongong Hockey Club. He first represented Australia at the2010Youth Olympics, helping Australia win a gold medal.

Since 2014, Flynn has been a regular in the Australian hockey national team, helping Australia win multiple important international hockey tournaments; for example,winning gold at the 2015 and 2019 Oceania Cups and the 2016 and 2018 Champions Trophies.


Despite not being selected for the 2016 Rio Olympics team and later suffering a serious injury in competition, Flynn did not give up and finally won a silver medal with his teammates at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.


In 2022, Flynn played a key role in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, helping Australia win by defeating India 7-0 in the final.
