At the University of WollongongUOWAmong the many alumni, there are quite a few writers who have created many famous novels, essays, or poems.Have you all heard about it? It's summer in the southern hemisphere of Australia now, perfect for finding a book to read. For example, you can find a spot on the beach to sit down and read slowly, feeling the sunshine, the sand, and the sea breeze. How pleasant and refreshing it is!

《Dirt Town》

This is the debut novel by Dr. Hayley Scrivenor. The story is set in an Australian town, revolving around the mysterious disappearance of a person, focusing on the consequences experienced by those left behind.


The inspiration for the book comes from the town where Dr. Hayley Scrivenor grew up, rooted in personal experiences. The novel, with themes of social responsibility and authenticity, prompts reflection on what we owe to each other. 《Dirt Town》 immediately became the number one bestseller in Australia in 2022. It has been translated into multiple languages and has won numerous domestic and international awards, including the ABIA Award for General Fiction Book of the Year, the Lambda Literary Award for LGBTQ+ Mystery, etc.

《Sign》

This is the debut novel by Dr. Colin Dray, a novel about strength, quiet courage, and the struggle to overcome silence. The protagonist is a young boy, Sam, who recently lost his voice due to surgery. Dr. Dray explores the silent struggles of patients in trauma through metaphors, focusing on the universal desire to be heard, especially among young people who often feel drowned out.


Dr. Dray has loved driving around since he was a child, an experience that inspired him to write a novel that blends many urban legends, offering readers a new kind of thrilling experience.

《The Mindful High Performer》

The author of the book, Chelsea Pottenger, is the founder and director of EQ MINDS, a mental health ambassador for “R U OK?”, and a published author. Her work is deeply rooted in personal experiences, having struggled with severe postpartum depression (PND) after her daughter was born nine years ago. Chelsea's recovery journey led her to practice and embrace a transformative lifestyle, combining tools for managing and optimizing mental health.


Chelsea is a prominent figure in the field of mental health advocacy, an international motivational speaker, and a certified mindfulness and meditation coach. Chelsea collaborates with global giants like Google, Optus, CBA, and Macquarie Bank to enhance the mental health of corporate teams. In 《The Mindful High Performer》, Chelsea shares scientific tools for achieving optimal mental health, providing guides for reducing stress, reshaping negative thinking, tapping into positive energy, and enhancing resilience.

Dr. Sam Lloyd isa scientist, fire ecologist, and writer, passionate about the Australian bush and children's literature. Dr. Lloydstrives to expose children to the world of science and nature.

《Alight》 beautifully tells the story of Australian native plants and animals during a planned fire. This engaging book combines non-fiction information with narrative, attracting young readers with lovely and charming characters.


《Alight》 not only introduces the concept of planned fires in the Australian bush to children in a light and humorous way but also serves as a valuable resource for educators looking to delve deeper into the purpose of fires and their role in maintaining bush health.


In gratitude for her studies at the University of Wollongong, Dr. Lloyd dedicated this book to her two UOW honorary doctoral supervisors, Professor Rob Whelan and David Ayre, who unfortunately passed away in 2023.

The author of the poetryKirli Saunders,in2020was named the NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year. Subsequently, in2022she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia(OAM)for her outstanding contribution to literature.

《Returning》 is a multimedia visual poetry project, offering a poetic and visual feast that guides readers through her personal journey of self-discovery and reconnection with the country. Kirli delves into important contemporary themes, including decolonization, identity, Indigenous matriarchy, queer, justice, love, liberation, and truth-telling. 《Returning》 provides a profound reflection on this deeply turbulent era.
