Diagnoses and treats physiological and mechanical disorders of the human locomotor system, particularly neuromuscular skeletal disorders, and provides advice on preventing these disorders. Registration or licensing is required.
Job Description
- Administering a variety of neurological, musculoskeletal and functional tests to identify and assess physical problems and ailments of patients
- Planning and discussing effective management of patients' dysfunction
- Designing, reviewing, monitoring, assessing and evaluating treatment programs
- Assisting and improving the function of all body systems such as musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine and genitourinary systems
- Recording detailed patient medical histories, treatments delivered and the patients' responses and progress to treatments
- Referring patients to specialists and liaising with other Health Professionals in relation to patients' problems, needs and progress
- Educating patients, their partners, family and friends in therapeutic procedures, such as home exercises and lifestyle changes, to enhance patients' health and wellbeing

Eligibility Assessment
- The nominated occupation must be 252111 – Chiropractor.
- The applicant must have completed a chiropractic medicine qualification recognized by the CCEA (typically a five-year full-time program or equivalent).
- It is necessary to demonstrate that the completed course is equivalent to Australian chiropractic education standards.

Assessment Requirements
Minimum Education Requirements
- Five years of full-time equivalent study (Bachelor's + Master's or direct-entry Doctoral level program). The curriculum must cover:
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Neuroscience
- Pathology
- Chiropractic Science
- Clinical Diagnosis and Internship (at least 1,000 hours of clinical practice)
Work Experience Requirements
- No mandatory work experience is required, but the program must include sufficient clinical practice.
English Language Requirements
- If the program was not taught in English, applicants must meet the AHPRA registration English requirements:
- IELTS Academic: Overall score ≥7.0, with no band less than 7.0
- OET: Minimum score of B in each component
- PTE Academic: Overall score ≥65, with no communicative skill score less than 65
- TOEFL iBT: Overall score ≥94, Writing ≥27, Speaking ≥23, Reading ≥24, Listening ≥24
Other Requirements
- The completed program must be accredited by the CCEA or assessed as equivalent to an Australian chiropractic program.
- Upon graduation, applicants must be eligible to apply for registration with AHPRA – the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
