Application Process
Step 1
Submit together as main and secondary applicants when applying for the visa for the first time. That is, the main applicant includes their spouse when applying for the student visa, adding the spouse's documents and additional fees (living and travel expenses, health insurance);
Step 2
If one partner already has a student visa, the other partner joining as a spouse needs to apply for a dependant visa separately, providing materials proving the relationship between the spouse and the main applicant, as well as relevant financial proof.
Another point to note: If the main applicant is already in Australia while the spouse is still in their home country, the dependant visa application is likely to involve a phone interview from the immigration office. It's crucial to remember that the spouse's primary purpose is to accompany the student, not to work or study in Australia. Therefore, you must remember basic information such as the main applicant's university in Australia, their course, and your marriage date, otherwise, the application could be rejected on the grounds of not being a 'genuine student dependant'.
