Macquarie University - Master of Laws Program Undergoes Significant Upgrade

We are delighted to share with you important upgrade information about the Master of Laws program at Macquarie University:
- Program Duration: 1-year system
- Background Requirements Relaxed: The program no longer requires students to have a legal background. Now, students from various academic backgrounds such as law, business, political science, environmental science, and public policy are welcome to apply.
- IELTS Requirement: 6.5 (6)
- Tuition Fee (2026): AUD 47,800
- Scholarship: AUD 5,000 (automatically assessed and awarded)
This makes Macquarie University one of only two universities in Australia that currently accept students without a legal background to apply for the Master of Laws.
Additionally, this adjustment allows students to more flexibly consider combining the Master of Laws with a 2-yearDual Master's Degree:
- Master of International Business and Master of Laws
- Master of Criminology and Master of Laws
- Master of Intelligence and Master of Laws
This program upgrade provides more students from diverse professional backgrounds with the opportunity to pursue advanced studies in the field of law and obtain a degree from a top institution.
