Please review the following updates from Western Sydney University - Master of Secondary Education.
1. Basic Information - Master of Teaching (Secondary)
1. Study Mode
- Standard Mode: 2-year program
- Accelerated Mode: 1.5-year program
2. Accreditation Status
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a professional teacher qualification program for students with relevant undergraduate degrees, fully accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Graduates will meet the graduate-level requirements of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.

4. 2026 Scholarship
- Automatically awarded, no separate application required: For GPA below 5.25/7: AUD 6,000 per year, up to 2 years, total AUD 12,000; For GPA 5.25/7 or above: AUD 10,000 per year, up to 2 years, total AUD 20,000.
2. English Entry Requirement Updates
- English Waiver: Completion of at least a 1.5-year Australian undergraduate or postgraduate course (UG/PG) within the past two years, previously required 2 years. Eligibility for exemption from the 2.5-year early childhood and primary education and 2-year secondary education English entry requirements will be confirmed by the admissions team after application submission.
- Standard English Scores (IELTS/PTE): IELTS overall 7.5 (with scores of 7, 7, 8, 8 in individual components) or PTE 78 (with scores of 65, 65, 79, 79 in individual components)
- English Package Option 1: Teacher Education Direct Entry English Program (TEDEEP) (12 weeks) Entry requirements: IELTS 7 (with no individual component below 6) or PTE 68 (with no individual component below 50) Start dates: March, September Post-scholarship tuition fee: AUD 388/week
- English Package Option 2: Minimum IELTS overall score of 6, can be bridged with 10 weeks of EAP + 12 weeks of TEDEEP (total 22 weeks) Post-scholarship tuition fee: AUD 388/week
3. Academic Entry Requirements
Standard Mode
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 4/7;
- And must meet the subject requirements for at least one secondary teaching area.
Accelerated Mode
- Undergraduate GPA of at least 5/7; and meet the requirements for at least one teaching area;
- Or maintain a GPA of 5/7 while completing the first four courses at WSU.
- Note: Students who have articulated from an approved WSU undergraduate pathway to teaching are exempt from GPA requirements (only applicable to Standard Mode).

5. Accelerated Study Mode Sequence - 1.5 years
- Start-year Intake: 5 courses + 5 courses + 2 courses (Summer term) + 4 courses
- Mid-year Intake: 5 courses + 2 courses (Summer term) + 5 courses + 4 courses
6. Western Sydney University (WSU) HSC True Reward Early Offer Program (offered before ATAR results are released)
Applicable to:
International students (students holding a NSW HSC qualification).
Only need to meet the specified subject requirements for Year 11 and Year 12 to receive an offer,
No need to provide ATAR scores, the offer condition is only the completion of the HSC course.
(Please refer to the Subject Bands requirements for each subject to determine the admission criteria.)
Application Method:
International students must apply through the UAC International Portal.
After receiving an offer, students can update their preference order in the system.
Degrees Excluded from True Reward Early Offer
The following degrees are not included in the True Reward early offer program due to additional selection criteria or quota limitations (applicable to students taking the HSC in 2025):
- Bachelor of Arts (Pathway to Teaching Early Childhood/Primary) / Master of Teaching (Birth–5 Years / Birth–12 Years Early Childhood and Primary)
- Bachelor of Education (Primary)
- Bachelor of Education (Primary) – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education
- Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
- Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry)
- Bachelor of Midwifery
- Bachelor of Nursing (Enrolled Nurse pathway)
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapy
- Bachelor of Paramedicine
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy
- Bachelor of Speech Pathology
- Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) Graduate Pathway
- Bachelor of Clinical Science (Medicine) / Doctor of Medicine (MD)
7. 2026 Western Sydney University UAC Scholarship
1. Automatic Multi-Year UAC Scholarship
- AUD 10,000 per year, up to 3 years, maximum total AUD 30,000.
2. Ineligible Courses:
- Doctor of Medicine
- Bachelor of Nursing
3. Bachelor of Nursing Exclusive Scholarship
- ATAR of 70 or above receives a multi-year scholarship of AUD 3,000 per year.
