Please see below for some latest adjustments to admission requirements for the start of the 2026 academic year.

These adjustments have been officially approved by the University of Melbourne.


1. Updates to the guaranteed admission scores for international applicants for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Design for 2026–2027

The University of Melbourne has adjusted the guaranteed admission scores for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Design programs for international applicants in 2026 and 2027.
The required score has been reduced from an ATAR of 85 to 83 (a decrease of 2 ATAR basis points).


This adjustment may also affect the equivalent scores for other recognized international qualifications. For the latest information, please refer to the relevant admission requirement pages:

  • Bachelor of Arts – Entry Requirements
  • Bachelor of Design – Entry Requirements

The university is currently assessing all existing and future applications for 2026 and 2027 using the revised admission scores. The admissions team is reviewing:

  • Applicants who were previously unsuccessful under the old admission requirements
  • Applicants currently holding conditional offers

These applicants will soon receive updated information and next steps.

2. Updates to English language requirements for some Faculty of Education programs (effective from the start of the 2026 academic year, aligning with most programs at the university)


1. Master of Education and Master of TESOL)

The language requirement is now adjusted to: overall IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent), with no band lower than 6;

2. Master of Teaching Suite programs

The language requirement is now adjusted to: overall IELTS score of 7.0 (or equivalent), with the following minimum band requirements:
a. Listening: 7.5
b. Speaking: 7.5
c. Reading: 7.0
d. Writing: 7.0



The admissions team is reviewing:

  • Applicants who were previously unsuccessful under the old English language requirements
  • Applicants currently holding conditional offers
  • Applicants holding packaged offers with Hawthorn-Melbourne

These applicants will also soon receive updated information and next steps.

The University of Melbourne has adjusted the international guaranteed entry scores for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Design programs for 2026 and 2027. The required score has been reduced from an ATAR of 85 to 83 (a change of two ATAR basis points).

Updates to English language requirements (ELR) for select Faculty of Education program from the Start year intake 2026 to align with most program at the university.

  1. The Master of Education and Master of TESOL will now have an ELR of an IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) overall score with no band lower than 6; and
  2. The Master of Teaching Suite will now have a lower ELR of an IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent) overall score, with minimum band scores:

a. Listening: 7.5

b. Speaking 7.5

c. Reading: 7.0

d. Writing: 7.0

The Admissions team is currently reviewing:

  • Applicants who were previously unsuccessful under the former English language requirements
  • Applicants holding conditional offers
  • Applicants with packaged offers with Hawthorn-Melbourne
