⚠️ Regarding Swinburne's GD Secondary Education Career Assessment

Today Swinburne confirmed the new secondary education courseAfter the first year, there are only 【40 days】 of internship, which is not enough for 【Secondary Education Career Assessment】, so after students complete the first year,they can obtain the 【GD certificate】 but 【cannot perform the career assessment temporarily】.

Swinburne's School of Education just confirmed today that there are only 40 days, and it cannot be increased temporarily.

1. Master of Occupational TherapyMaster of Occupational Therapy

  • Only 20 international students are admitted each year
  • Australian undergraduate score of 70+ is required for possible admission
  • Domestic undergraduate score starts at 78, but the cut-off varies each year, with admission based on merit
  • Cannot be paired with English, cannot exempt English

  • The teaching mode is the same for CoE and non-CoE
  • GD consists of 4 courses, one per quarter (EDU60052/EDU60053/EDU60054/EDU60055)
  • Two face-to-face sessions per quarter, mainly teachers taking students to kindergartens to observe, teaching basic operations like making playdough
  • Every two weeks, the rest are online courses, 425 hours of internship, internship is directly at kindergartens
  • Internship friendly: the school assigns internships based on students' residential locations, Swinburne has many partners, so the internship arrangements have always received good feedback
  • Paid internships need to be applied for by oneself, shifts arranged

1. Master of Educational Leadership

Duration: 1 year (can be combined for 485 visa)

Flexible admission requirements:

  • Any 4-year Australian undergraduate major
  • 3-year Australian undergraduate + GD Early Childhood Teaching from any school
  • 3-year Australian undergraduate + GC/GD in any major is fine


2. Master of Teaching (Secondary)
Duration: 2 years

Intake dates: Starting from 2026, four intakes per year (January, April, July, September, the only secondary education in Victoria with four intakes

Tuition: $33,880/year, scholarships automatically reviewed

Teaching direction: Only one direction required, almost all undergraduate majors are acceptable (if choosing Chinese, Swinburne has its own Chinese test
Language requirements:

  • IELTS: Total 7.0, no less than 7.0 in each component, with speaking and listening no less than 7.5
  • IELTS single test accepted
  • PTE: Total 66, no less than 66 in each component, with speaking and listening no less than 76
  • Can be paired with language, 10-20 weeks. But 20 weeks is not recommended, poor level
  • In 2026, 10 weeks of language free, i.e., language course scholarship
  • If the applicant has completed a bachelor's degree in English in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Canada, or the Republic of Ireland (2 years of English teaching and completed within 2 years before the start date), no English language proficiency proof is required.

  • After completing the first year, you can get the GD Secondary Teaching certificate 【Whether you can get the GD without dropping out is still to be notified】(can be used for career assessment, similar to ECU's approach, details to be announced by the school
  • If the student is excellent enough and passes LANTITE in the first year, Swinburne can provide a temporary teaching certificate in the second year, and can arrange paid internships
  • First week face-to-face, second week starts internship and online courses (same for student visa and non-student visa), secondary teaching first week must be face-to-face regardless of visa
  • Internship is also face-to-face, just some assignments and reports are completed online after the internship starts


3. Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design)

Admission requirements: Bachelor of Engineering, and the direction must be consistent with the master's direction
