University of Melbourne update
The University of Melbourne (UniMelb)

Please see below for important updates from the University of Melbourne for education agents.
1. Taiwan GSAT results are now officially recognized by the University of Melbourne as a direct entry qualification for undergraduate programs.
The University of Melbourne has updated its undergraduate admission requirements for students from Taiwan. Effective immediately, the General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT), Taiwan's national high school graduation exam, will be considered a valid academic qualification for direct application to undergraduate courses at the University of Melbourne.
Eligible students can apply for admission with their GSAT results after completing high school in Taiwan, without the need to provide SAT, ACT, or AP exam scores.

3. Update on the calculation method of US high school GPA
From now on, the University of Melbourne will no longer internally recalculate the GPA for US high schools. Instead, it will base its assessment on the final official transcript GPA listed by the student, combined with SAT or ACT scores. To qualify for undergraduate admission at the University of Melbourne, international students or Australian citizens holding a US high school diploma must meet the following conditions simultaneously:
- Meet the required GPA;
- Achieve the specified standardized test scores;
- Meet the prerequisite course requirements for the applied program (required grades in recognized subjects);
- Meet the English language requirements.
⚠️ The University of Melbourne does not consider non-academic factors such as personal statements, extracurricular activities, recommendation letters, or course depth as admission criteria.
📌 If AP scores are used to meet English requirements or academic prerequisite course requirements, these scores can also be included in the calculation of the AP aggregate score under 'Exam Option 2'.

Some important points,Please refer to the official website for detailed explanations, I will just list them:
1. AP total score requirement
The AP aggregate score is calculated based on at least 3, up to 4 AP exam scores, with subjects scoring below 3 not included in the total.
2. English language requirements
- Complete AP English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition with an AP exam score of at least 3;
- Or meet through other means (see 'English Language Requirements' section for details).
3.Recognition method for prerequisite subjects (Prerequisites)
- The school only accepts AP exam scores to meet prerequisite subject requirements, not AP course grades.
- No AP exam credit reduction will be given.
- If a student has not completed the relevant AP exams, they can provide a university-level 'dual-credit' course syllabus for case-by-case evaluation, but must still provide at least 2 other AP exam scores, each with at least 3 points.
4 Mathematics requirements for engineering majors
Students applying for the following major directions may need to take a mathematics bridging subject in their first year, equivalent to VCE's Mathematical Methods Units 3 and 4:
- Civil Systems
- Computing
- Construction
- Mechanical Systems
- Property
- Spatial Systems
5 Bachelor of Fine Arts (undergraduate in arts) admission requirements Admission is mainly based on portfolio, audition, interview, or other specific requirements. Academically, only completion of a US high school diploma is required (no minimum GPA set), but English language requirements must still be met. Supplementary application materials must be submitted, see the Study website for details on Fine Arts.
4. Graduate applications for the School of Architecture and Design no longer require a personal statement
Starting from 2026, all graduate courses at the Melbourne School of Design (MSD) will no longer require a personal statement.
5. Extension of application deadlines for 2026 graduate courses
The application deadlines for most graduate taught courses have been extended from the original August 2025 to September 30, 2025.
Please be sure to check the course page for each course for the latest deadline information.
6. Important update - Doctor of Optometry
Starting from July 29, 2025, GAMSAT, MCAT, or OAT will no longer be mandatory requirements for applying to the OD program.
This change aims to lower the application threshold for students and align the University of Melbourne's admission standards more closely with other Australian universities' optometry programs. From now on, admission to the OD program will be based solely on academic performance (Weighted Average Mark WAM) and existing standards.
For applicants for 2026 and 2027 admissions, starting from July 29, 2025, it will mean:
- No longer need to submit entrance exam scores such as GAMSAT, MCAT, or OAT
- Admission will be assessed solely based on the applicant's WAM
