As the second trimester of 2025 approaches, the University of Southern Queensland has several important updates to share with you, including: adjustments to English language requirements for some courses, changes in visa document review levels, and a reminder to assist students in preparing their visa applications as early as possible.
1. Updated English Language Requirements for Nursing Programs
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has updated the English language requirements for the nursing program, applicable to students applying for the Bachelor of Nursing.
Key changes include:
- The overall IELTS score still requires 7.0, but the writing component now accepts 6.5 (previously all components required at least 7.0).
- New acceptance of Cambridge C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency test scores.
- English test scores can be combined: allowing the use of scores from up to two tests within 12 months (previously limited to 6 months).
2. Australian Immigration Department's March 2025 Visa Document Level Update
In March 2025, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) updated the Evidence Level for some countries and educational institutions. The Document Checklist Tool on the DHA website now reflects the latest levels.

3. Important Dates Reminder for the Second Trimester
Please pay special attention to the following key dates to make enrollment arrangements for students:
- Orientation Week: May 19, 2025
- Course Start Date: May 26, 2025
- Registration Deadline & Tuition Fee Payment Deadline: June 6, 2025
4. Important Visa Application Reminder
Currently, visa processing times in many regions continue to be extended. According to DHA recommendations, please ensure that students' visa applications are submitted at least 8 weeks before the course starts, with all materials complete, to ensure students can arrive on time and smoothly participate in orientation and classes.

Change to nursing degrees English language requirements
Updated English Language Requirements for Nursing Programs
There has been an update to the English language requirements for our Nursing programs.
The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has introduced revised English language requirements for students applying to the Bachelor of Nursing.
Key changes include:
- Overall IELTS score of 7.0 still required, however a writing score of 6.5 is now accepted (previously, all bands required a minimum of 7.0)
- Cambridge C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency tests are now accepted
- Applicants may now combine results from up to two tests completed within 12 months (previously within 6 months)

Department of Home Affairs – March 2025 Evidence Level Update
In March 2025, the Evidence Level for countries and education providers was updated. TheDocument Checklist Toolon the Department’s website now reflects these updated Evidence Levels.

- Last date to enroll and fees due:6th June
Important Visa Reminder
We are seeing increasing visa processing times across several regions. To avoid delays, all visa applications should be fully complete and lodged 8 weeks before the course commencement, as recommended by DHA. This ensures your students have the best chance of arriving in time for Orientation and classes.
