Monash University Update

Monash University Update

Monash University

Monash University

In December 2024, the Australian government introduced Ministerial Direction 111, resulting in the median processing time for some students' 2025 student visas being extended to 12 to 16 weeks. Of course, we have also seen some students' visa processing times being much faster than this.

As you are aware, all visas are processed by the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA), and no educational institution, including Monash University, can influence visa processing times or outcomes.

In light of this, while preparing for the second semester admissions, we have also established new admission timelines aimed at supporting our students and partners and ensuring as much as possible that students can obtain their visas in time and enroll on schedule.

Second Semester (Semester 2) related dates:

TypeOffshore StudentsOnshore Students
Offer Lapse DateApril 15, 2025May 31, 2025

We strongly recommend that students accept their offer from Monash University for the second semester as soon as they receive it, to initiate the visa application process as early as possible.
Students with a Conditional Offer can apply for a conditional eCOE.

Please ensure that once the eCOE is approved, students accept the Offer by April 15 (some exceptions apply).

We were delighted earlier this month to welcome our Semester 1 2025 cohort onto our Victorian campuses. Students participated in a range of experiences all designed to welcome them and to ensure that they had the best possible start to their studies and life at Monash.

We recognise that some students have experienced longer than expected processing times for their student visas and acknowledge this may be causing concern for students applying for our Semester 2 intake.

In December 2024, the Australian Government introduced Ministerial Direction 111, leading to 2025 Student Visa median processing times of between 12 - 16 weeks for some students. We are aware that some students have received visas far quicker than that. As you are aware, all visas are processed by DHA. This means that educational institutions, including Monash University, are unable to influence processing times or outcomes.

With this in mind - and as we turn our focus to Semester 2 activities - I’d like to advise you of admissions timelines designed to support our students and partners during this time and to provide as much opportunity as possible for students to arrive in time to commence their studies.
