As you may know, despite the high demand for early childhood teachers, several states in Australia are currently facing a severe shortage of secondary school teachers, creating a large number of job opportunities in this professional field.


We hereby remind you that the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) program at Victoria University (VU) Melbourne campus is still open for applications, and interested students are welcome to apply.


Course Overview

Start Date: February, July
Duration: 2 years

Scholarship:

  • First Year: 20% tuition fee reduction
  • Second Year: 10%-30% tuition fee reduction based on the first year WAM results
  • High achievers or students transitioning directly from undergraduate to master's without a gap can receive a 30% scholarship in the first year

Professional Practice: 60 days of secondary school teaching internship (see attached course schedule for details)

Accreditation Body:

  • Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL)
  • Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)

Teaching Direction:

  • After completing the Master of Teaching (Secondary Education), students need to specialize in at least one teaching area
  • The specialization depends on the undergraduate courses taken and cannot be chosen based solely on interest

Application Requirements

Academic Requirements:

  • Completion of an Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent)

Non-academic Requirements:

  • All applicants must pass the CASPer test before enrollment
  • If the CASPer test date conflicts with the start date or visa expiration date, a VU ANAA interview can be arranged as a substitute

English Requirements:

  • Applicants from countries other than Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Ireland, need to provide:

  • Applicants with a 2-year undergraduate degree and a master's degree from the above-mentioned English-speaking countries may apply for an English interview.
  • Applicants who pass the interview can be exempted from IELTS or other English test requirements.

Scholarship:20% scholarship for the first year, the 2nd year scholarship ranges from 10-30%, based on the 1st year WAM.High-achievers and/or those transitioning from UG to PG without a gap will be awarded with 30% scholarship for the first year.

Teaching Specialisation(s):

  • Preservice teachers who complete Master of Teaching (Secondary Education) will specialize in at least one teaching area.
  • The specialisation/s is/are dependent on units completed in your undergraduate units.
  • Students cannot choose their specialisations based on an interest if they have not completed the required unit sequence.


  • Entry Requirements:
  • Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent)
  • Non-academic attributes: All students need to pass CASPer test prior to admission (in case CASPer test date is not available before the intake or visa expiry, VU ANAA interview can be arranged).
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's degree (3 years duration) from countries other than Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada or the Republic of Ireland will be required to provide IELTS (or equivalent): Overall 7.0 with Listening 7.5, Reading 6.5, Writing 6.5, Speaking 7.5.NOTE: Applicants with a 2-year Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from English-speaking countries as mentioned above may be offered an interview to assess their English ability. If they pass, they will not need to provide an IELTS score or equivalent.
