Important Update from the University of New South Wales: The Business School Announces New Master of Finance (8476) Program

As Australia's top-ranked Banking and Finance School (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024), UNSW Business School has redesigned the highly regarded Master of Finance program, enablingstudents without a finance background to take introductory courses, while those with a finance background can directly enter advanced finance courses for further study.
1 Introduction to the New Master of Finance (8476) Program
- Duration: 2 years (Students with an undergraduate degree in finance can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to reduce the duration to 1 year)

2 Next Steps
Master of Finance (8476) is now open for applications for the 2026 academic year!
- Students who have applied for the 2026 Master of Finance (8406): Students will be notified and can choose to switch to the new Master of Finance (8476) program and apply for applicable Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). If they do not wish to switch to the new program, their application will be withdrawn, and a refund of the application fee will be processed where possible.
- The Master of Finance (8406) program will soon close for applications. **Term 2 and Term 3 of 2025** will no longer accept new applications. Students who have applied for the Master of Finance (8406) for 2025 admission will be notified and can choose to: switch to the new program but remain with the 2025 admission time, switch to the new Master of Finance (8476) program and adjust the application time to 2026, or withdraw the application and receive a refund of the application fee where possible.
3. For Current Offer Holders
- Students who have received an offer for the Master of Finance (8406) for 2025 admission: Must accept the offer and pay the deposit by the specified deadline, otherwise the offer will lapse. They will receive further guidance on alternative course selection options for the Master of Finance (8406) program in the future.
- Students with a conditional offer for the Master of Finance (8406): Must submit missing materials by the specified date, otherwise the offer will lapse.
- Students who have been approved for deferral (Deferral): Must confirm the deferral by the deadline, otherwise the deferral offer will lapse. They can also choose to adjust the deferral time but switch to the new Master of Finance (8476) program for 2026 admission.
- Students who have accepted the Master of Finance (8406) offer for 2025 admission: Will receive further guidance in the future to ensure smooth admission and completion of studies.
UNSW Business School is excited to announce our new Master of Finance (8476) is set to commence inTerm 1, 2026. As Australia’s #1 ranked school for Banking & Finance*, we have redesigned our highly regarded Master of Finance program to allow students with a background outside of finance to take introductory courses, while also allowing those with a finance background to continue with advanced study.
This new, two-year program will cover introductory finance concepts before moving on to advanced finance in the second year. Those with an undergraduate degree in finance will be eligible for RPL and can move straight into the second-year advanced finance phase, reducing the study duration to one year. The new Master of Finance has been developed and is managed alongside industry and offers students unique opportunities to learn key financial concepts and theories, and practices that can be applied in industry. Students will have the option to choose from a finance major, as well as get hands-on experience in one of our Career Accelerator Work Integrated Learning electives.

Students with an application to Master of Finance (8406) for 2026 will be contacted shortly to ask if they would like to be considered for the new Master of Finance (8476) program with the appropriate RPL issued. Those who do not wish to be considered for the new program will have their application withdrawn and where possible, an application fee refund processed.

Conditional Offers
Students who have conditional offers for Master of Finance (8406) forTerm 2, 2025 and Term 3, 2025will be contacted with a deadline to upload outstanding documents to continue in the Master of Finance (8406), otherwise their offer will lapse.
Deferrals
Students who have approved deferrals for Master of Finance (8406) forTerm 2, 2025 and Term 3, 2025will be contacted with a deadline to fully accept their deferral, otherwise their deferral offer will lapse.
Students who have requested deferral for Master of Finance (8406) forTerm 2, 2025 and Term 3, 2025will be contacted with the option to keep their term of deferral but change their program OR change their deferral to Master of Finance (8476) for 2026.
Students who have accepted full offers for Master of Finance (8406) forTerm 2, 2025 and Term 3, 2025will be contacted with instructions on alternative enrolment patterns for the Master of Finance (8406) program.
