Please see below for the University of Melbourne's advice on late arrivals for the first semester of 2025.

The University of Melbourne is aware that some incoming students have experienced delays in their visa applications. To assist them in arriving on campus smoothly, the University of Melbourne will allow students to extend their registration and arrival time, with the latest arrival date being **Sunday, March 16, 2025**before arriving, andclasses will officially start on **Monday, March 17**.

(Some courses are not applicable to this policy, see below).


This year, we hope to track students' delayed arrivals by course. Therefore, if your student is still awaiting the outcome of their visa application by February 24, 2025, please fill out the Student Visa Inquiry Form (attachment link), and ensure to include the following information:

  • Email subject: Late arrival to Melbourne
  • Inquiry content: Student's name, student ID number, course name, and a note that the visa application result is still pending


In addition, all students should refer to the Get Started page to ensure they have started setting up their student account and completed the relevant registration procedures.

Please note that while the university offers a policy for late arrivals, special consideration applications due to late arrival will not be accepted.


The following courses are not applicable to the late arrival policy

  • Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours)(Three-year Bachelor of Biomedical Science can arrive late)
  • Doctor of Medicine
  • Doctor of Physiotherapy
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
  • Graduate Certificate in Agricultural Science
  • Juris Doctor
  • Master of Applied Psychology
  • Master of Biomedical Science
  • Master of Ecosystem Management and Conservation
  • Master of Earth Sciences
  • Master of Nursing Science
  • Master of Psychology (Clinical Neuropsychology)
  • Master of Public Health
  • Master of Science (Biological Sciences)
  • Master of Social Work
  • Master of Speech Pathology


Important reminders about entering Australia

The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry requires us to help ensure students arrive in Australia smoothly and provide them with relevant education on the requirements for carrying luggage into the country.
