PART 2
Preparing for Future Careers

Job hunting and employment are among themost concernedissues for students and parents. At the University of Queensland (UQ), we are committed to providing students with rich resources and opportunities to smoothly transition from study to the workplace and realize their career dreams.

Practical Experience
UQ offers a variety of industry practice opportunities for undergraduates, helping you apply your knowledge in real-world environments. Our criminology students have gained industry experience with the Australian Federal Police, archaeology students have interned at the Queensland Museum, and tourism students have gained experience at Disney World in Florida. These experiences pave the way for future careers.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL)
Many of our degree programs include Work Integrated Learning (WIL) units, meaning students can apply their knowledge in real work environments and earn credits. WIL is not just traditional industry internships but also includes industry projects, work simulations, field experiences, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Internship Opportunities
In addition to coursework, students can participate in internships during winter and summer breaks. UQ collaborates with various institutions to offer global, domestic, and virtual internship opportunities annually for different disciplines. Our occupational therapy students have interned with a non-governmental organization in Argentina, and information technology students have conducted virtual internships at startups in the United States. Internship opportunities in countries such as South Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Singapore, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Spain, and Ireland are also available.

Volunteer Service
Participating in volunteer service for non-profit organizations and charitable institutions can not only add a highlight to your resume but also help students improve their interpersonal and communication skills. UQ offers rich volunteer opportunities, whether on-campus or with partner organizations. For example, veterinary technology students can serve as animal care assistants at RSPCA, and communication students can assist charitable organizations in managing social media.

Mentorship Programs
Many colleges at UQ offer specialized career and industry mentorship programs to help students smoothly transition to the workplace. By interacting with industry professionals, you can gain valuable advice, expand your professional network, and open up more opportunities.

Entrepreneurial Support
We encourage students to pursue entrepreneurial dreams. The UQ Ventures program provides a platform connecting students, industry partners, and high school students, aiming to create innovative solutions to technical, social, economic, and environmental challenges. Through various events, we help aspiring students connect with industry leaders, inspire action, and spark innovation. Many students have gained international recognition as young entrepreneurs before graduation.

Free Employability Courses
UQ offers free, self-paced online employability courses to help students learn how to write resumes, conduct interviews, and communicate effectively. The course content combines the experiences of employers and successful graduates, preparing students for future careers.

Career Counseling
UQ's Career Development Team hosts a series of events and workshops throughout the year to help students chart a clear career path during their studies, adjust direction to pursue other careers, or provide guidance.

Job Search Support
UQ offers a range of practical resources, including resume and job application guidance, interview techniques, and the ability to submit applications for personalized feedback, ensuring students stand out in the job search process.

Rich Learning Experiences and Opportunities
UQ offers various opportunities to enrich students' learning experiences and enhance their employability. This includes industry internships, practical projects, and interactions with industry experts. We also invite industry experts to host masterclasses, providing students with cutting-edge knowledge and practical guidance. Additionally, international exchange programs offer students valuable international experience, enhancing their global perspective and cross-cultural communication skills, increasing their competitiveness in the global workplace. UQ offers various scholarships, grants, and loans for students wishing to participate in exchange programs, short courses, volunteer activities, and other extracurricular activities. Thanks to these supports and resources, UQ graduates maintain a high employment rate, showcasing their significant competitive advantage in the workplace.
