Franchesca is a Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery student at our Melbourne campus, and also a passionate La Trobe leader. After participating in the La Trobe Leadership Program, she has gained many valuable experiences and insights.
The original intention of joining the La Trobe Leadership Program
I joined the La Trobe Leadership Program because I wanted to give back to this warm community. When I attended the open day in Year 12, I felt everyone's enthusiasm and friendliness; when I officially became a member of La Trobe, everyone's warmth made me feel very warm. Therefore, I hope to become a guiding light for new and current students, creating a friendly and positive campus environment.
What have you gained from participating in the leadership program
It might sound a bit funny, but participating in this program has made me very familiar with the campus! The Melbourne campus is large, and many people get lost at first. As a La Trobe leader, I not only learned to lead campus tours, but also helped new students find their way during orientation week. Through these experiences, I not only quickly mastered shortcuts to classrooms, but also discovered many hidden campus treasures, such as the International Garden, which has become my favorite place to study and relax.
Favorite part
What I like most is meeting many other La Trobe leaders! At university, social circles are usually limited to classmates in the same major, but through this program, I have the opportunity to meet friends from different disciplines, seeing their passion for their studies, which makes me feel very inspired.
Every time I meet familiar leader partners on campus, having a cup of coffee and chatting always makes me feel very warm.
Broader perspective
This program has also given me a broader perspective on my course. By communicating with students majoring in occupational therapy, I have gained a more diversified understanding of the entire healthcare system.
