English proficiency test

GELI willplace students into classes based on their English proficiency test results (IELTS, PTE Academic, or TOEFL iBT).If you have not taken any English proficiency test, we recommend taking the Griffith English Test to determine the appropriate class level for your English learning at GELI. This test is an online free test, and its results are for GELI's internal use only.

If you plan to continue your studies in the future, pursuing a degree or diploma course, we will inform you of the possible length of time you may need to study English at GELI based on your specific situation.

Direct entry program

GELI's direct entry program is meticulously divided intoseven levels,aiming to accurately match the most suitable starting point for learning based on students' English proficiency test results. Through this series of courses, students will comprehensively improve their English abilities,covering the four core areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking,helping students meet the admission standards for Griffith University's diploma, bachelor's, master's, and even doctoral courses.

Adopting small class teaching, personalized attention, with 20 hours of classes per week, plus 5 hours of self-study time, students can freely arrange according to GELI's self-study plan.

How to apply

Applications are open all year round, and you can apply for admission in the following 4 steps:

Step1:Choose the professional course you want to study at Griffith University or Griffith College.

Step2:Prepare the application documents (translate into English if necessary).

Step3:Apply online or submit the application through a formal study abroad agency.

We will inform you in the offer letter how many weeks of English courses you need to complete to meet the English requirements for admission to Griffith University. If you have also applied for a degree course or overseas study, exchange program at Griffith University, you will receive a packaged offer letter.

Step4:Accept the offer and pay all fees.

Application conditions:

✔ The applicant is a citizen of a country other than Australia or New Zealand.

✔ Completed the direct entry program (DEP) at Griffith English Language Institute (GELI).

✔ Meet all academic and English language admission requirements for the chosen bachelor's or taught master's degree course.

✔ The applicant is a full-time student enrolled in 2024, 2025, or 2026.
