Want to become a registered nurse in just two years? Charles Darwin University's (CDU) Master of Nursing Practice (Pre-Registration) can help students achieve this goal.


The course will help you master skills such as critical thinking, clinical reasoning, comprehensive health assessment, and learn to provide patient-centered care. We focus on evidence-based nursing practice while respecting the experiences of health, well-being, illness, and disability among people from different cultures, backgrounds, and communities, helping you become an outstanding nursing professional. This course is professionally accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council, and upon graduation, students will be eligible to apply to become a registered nurse (Level 1).

Course Overview


Studying nursing at CDU, you will learn about patient-centered high-quality care. The clinical placements arranged by the course provide students with valuable practical experience in hospitals, community health centers, primary care clinics, and aged care facilities, which are key components of the educational process.


Practical Training


The course includes internships offering both simulated and professional practice experiences. Simulated internships are offered annually, with students choosing between a 4-day intensive training or weekly sessions. These internships require full-time completion at CDU's simulation internship locations across Australia, including Darwin, Alice Springs, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth.

Over the two-year course, you will complete 800 hours of professional practice, covering various healthcare environments, including remote areas. Nursing requires a certain level of physical and mobility, endurance, communication, and cognitive abilities. All students must participate in full-time internships, working shifts and duties alongside other healthcare professionals in Australian hospitals, exposing them to real work scenarios and laying a solid foundation for entering the workforce smoothly after graduation.

Academic Requirements: Successful completion of a recognized bachelor's degree or equivalent international qualification, and a high school transcript is required.


English Admission Requirements: Academic IELTS overall score of 7.0, with no band less than 7.0; or PTE Academic overall score of 65, with no score less than 65.


CDU's Master of Nursing is a professionally accredited degree program that meets the standards for applying for Level 1 nurse registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). After graduation, you can apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency for registration to become a registered nurse. Registered nurses can engage in all nursing work in clinical settings, including basic nursing, medication administration, blood drawing and dressing changes, plan updates, handling conditions, liaising with other healthcare staff, and nursing management.


The Master of Nursing program has limited places. Interested students are advised to prepare and submit their applications as early as possible.
