2024 First Half Highlights

The University of Adelaide

Unconsciously, 2024 is nearly halfway through, and the University of Adelaide has continued to forge ahead in the first half of the year. We not only successfully held four spectacular open day events inChina, but also witnessed and promoted a series ofChinese teams visiting Australiaandin-depth exchangesthrough active international cooperation.



These important visits have not only further deepened broader international cooperation but also reaffirmed the University of Adelaide's position as“Pioneer in International Education”, laying a solid foundation for the cultivation of more international talents.

April 26, 2024

Consul General's Visit


On April 26, 2024, the University of Adelaide welcomedMr. Li Dong, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Adelaideand his delegation, including Deputy Consul General Mr. Pi Lijun and Consul Ms. Yao Na. This was Mr. Li Dong'sfirst official visitsince taking office in September 2023.



During the visit, the University of Adelaide'sVice-Chancellor (External Engagement) Dr. Jessica Gallagherwarmly welcomed the Consul General's delegation. Subsequently, members of the university's faculties and departments conductedthematic presentations.


The presentations covered the latest developments and achievements of the university in external cooperation, public health, architecture and engineering, career development, and international student support, showcasing the University of Adelaide's leadership and innovation capabilities inmultiple fields.



After the presentations, the delegation participated in asmall networking tea party, engaging in in-depth exchanges with university staff, followed by a campus tour to further understand the unique charm and advanced facilities of the University of Adelaide.


This visit not only strengthened

Sino-Australian cooperation in thefield of educationbut also laid a solid foundation for future

international talent cultivation.2

Tianjin University Visit

On April 26, the University of Adelaide also welcomed a delegation led by


Professor Gong Jinlong, Vice President of Tianjin University. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Vice-Chancellor Jessica Gallagher of the University of Adelaide and held aroundtable meetingwith representatives from the SET and ABLE faculties to discuss future cooperation opportunities.The University of Adelaide and Tianjin University have a long-standing cooperative relationship. Since



2015, Professor Anton Middelberg, Vice-Chancellor (Research) of the University of Adelaide, has been appointed as anhonorary professorby Tianjin University. Recently, exchanges and cooperation between the two universities in multiple fields have been continuously deepening:September 2023:


Professor Shizhang Qiao from the School of Chemical Engineering (Australian Research Council Industry Laureate Fellow) and Professor David Lewis, Head of the School of Chemical Engineering, visited Tianjin University to explore further cooperation opportunities.October 2023:

The University of Adelaide joined the International Entrepreneurship Alliance of World Universities (IEAWUS) initiated by Tianjin University, marking a new step in cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship education between the two universities.October 2023

: Professor Michael Goodsite, Vice-Chancellor (Energy Futures), Professor Jian Zuo, and Professor Phillip Visintin from the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering were invited by the School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Tianjin University to jointly apply for a key international cooperation project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.The research proposal for this project has been supported by the University of Adelaide and is expected to sign a letter of intent in the future to formally establish the cooperation framework.


This visit by the Tianjin University delegation not only further consolidated the cooperative relationship between the two universities but also laid the foundation for future cooperation in


low-carbon cities and circular built environments.We look forward to achieving mutual benefits and promoting the international development of both universities through such cooperation in


academic research, innovation and entrepreneurship, and sustainable development

Qingdao Delegation Visit

On May 15,


Mr. Wang Bo, Vice Mayor of Qingdao Municipal People's Government, led a delegation to visit Adelaide. Organized by StudyAdelaide, the delegation held anInternational Education Roundtablewith Phillip Fredericks, Deputy Director of Global Engagement at the University of Adelaide, and other educational representatives.Participants included representatives from the international education sector of South Australia, covering higher education, vocational education and training, and primary and secondary education. This visit followed



the South Australian Premier's visit to Qingdao in April 2024, further strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two regions.In 2024, Qingdao and Adelaide celebrated the


10th anniversary of the sister city relationship, and this visit provided new opportunities for cooperation in the field of international education between the two cities.4



May 30, 2024

Sino-Australian University Presidents Forum Delegation Visit

On May 30, 2024, the University of Adelaide hosted a senior delegation attending the


Sino-Australian University Presidents Forum. The forum was co-organized by the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) and the Group of Eight (Go8) and was held in Adelaide from May 29 to 30.The delegation included



senior representatives from 22 Chinese research universities, marking the largest meeting between Chinese university representatives and the Go8 since COVID-19. The meeting focused on the challenges and opportunities of university research in the context of globalization, including research training, innovation, and commercialization.During the visit, the delegation also toured the North Terrace campus of the University of Adelaide and the South Australian Museum, learning about our research strengths inmedicine and oenology.





In the first half of 2024, the University of Adelaide, through

a series of high-level visits

, consolidated its cooperation with Chinese educational institutions. Each interaction not only showcased our research strength but also brought more opportunities for international students
