Professor Baumann, President of the CDU, assumes the position of Executive Chairman of the Guangzhou International Sister Cities University Alliance.

Professor Scott Bowman, the President of Charles Darwin University (hereinafter referred to as CDU), was recently appointed as the new Executive Chairman of the Guangzhou International Sister Cities University Alliance (GISU). Professor Bowman will preside over the annual meeting held at Guangzhou University this year and the President's Committee meeting held at CDU next year.

Alliance Background

The Guangzhou International Sister Cities University Alliance was established in 2018 to promote global education development and cultural exchange. Currently, the alliance has 18 member universities from 15 countries, representing over five hundred thousand students. The alliance members include the University of Coimbra, the University of Padua, the University of Tampere, Incheon National University, Middle East Technical University, the University of the West of England, the National Technical University of Ukraine 'Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute', and the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture, among others.

Professor Bowman's Outlook

Professor Bowman expressed his honor for his new position and looked forward to collaborating with other members of the alliance. 'I am delighted to be selected as the Executive Chairman of the alliance and look forward to working with the secretariat and all partner universities to promote and strengthen the connections that have already been formed,' he said. 'This alliance can play an important role in establishing international relations, strong local business connections, and lasting partnerships between our institutions. During my tenure as Executive Chairman, I will do my best to build these connections and make a positive contribution to the alliance.'

Professor Wei Minghai, President of Guangzhou University and Chairman of the alliance, welcomed Professor Bowman's joining: 'Professor Bowman was highly recommended by the founding Executive Chairman of our alliance, Honorary Professor Glover. Professor Bowman's passion for international cooperation and rich background are very much in line with the needs of our alliance,' said Professor Wei. 'He has recently been developing a new strategic plan for Charles Darwin University, aiming to make it the most connected university in Australia, which will help our alliance establish closer connections.'
