Supporting the Career Development of Paramedical Students

This week, a paramedical expo was held at CDU's Casuarina campus. This event connects industry with academia, providing students with the opportunity to gain real-world work experience in their respective fields and helping them find jobs in the Northern Territory's healthcare sector.

Professor Dominic Upton, Dean of the CDU College of Health, stated that retaining talent in the Northern Territory is crucial for building a healthcare community deeply rooted in the local area. The partnership between CDU and the Northern Territory health department offers students a pathway to explore diverse career opportunities, from clinical practice to community health services and research. At CDU, we prioritize students' learning needs by providing immersive, hands-on learning experiences to help them tackle the unique healthcare challenges of the Northern Territory.

“We believe that by retaining talented healthcare professionals in the Northern Territory, we can create a more resilient and responsive healthcare system to meet the diverse needs of our population.”

The expo will showcase a variety of paramedical services, including audiology, nutrition, exercise and sports science, occupational therapy, psychology, social work, and more. The event will also highlight mental health and wellbeing services, showcasing innovative approaches to addressing challenges and promoting holistic care.

Participants can engage in networking, interactive displays, demonstrations, and insightful discussions. Professor Nicole O’Reilly, Head of the CDU Department of Health Sciences, stated that this annual event provides students with leverage in their chosen fields.

Professor O’Reilly said, “Before completing their studies, our students can establish necessary connections through internships, graduate programs, and community health services tailored to student knowledge.”

“CDU supports students through this critical transition from study to industry, ensuring our students graduate ready to work in the local healthcare sector, alleviating concerns about finding stable jobs that match their qualifications.”
