Charles Darwin University (CDU) will build a brand new student dormitory on Woods Street in Darwin CBD.

The location is shown in the figure

This dormitory is expected to accommodate 350 students, with an extremely convenient location, right next to our new downtown campus. This will provide students with a safe and comfortable living environment, especially helping internationalstudentsbetter adapt to studying and living in Australia. Professor Scott Bowman, the university president, stated that the new dormitory will greatly improve students' accommodation conditions and provide strong support for their studies.

The Northern Territory government has allocated this valuable piece of land to us for the construction of student dormitories. Northern Territory Chief Minister Eva Lawler supports this agreement and believes it will enable more students to study and live in downtown Darwin, promoting local development. She emphasized that the Northern Territory needs to secure more places for international students, as they are of great significance to regional development. We look forward to more students living and studying in the CBD, bringing vitality to local businesses and attracting more investment.

Minister Joel Bowden, Northern Territory Chief Minister Eva Lawler, and CDU President

Joel Bowden, Minister for Infrastructure, Planning, Logistics, and International Education of the Northern Territory, said that the new dormitory will complement our downtown campus and help attract more international students. International students not only bring cultural diversity to the Northern Territory but also make a significant contribution to the local economy.

Currently, there are over 5,600 international students in the Northern Territory, and the government plans to increase this number to 10,000 by 2030, thereby further enhancing the international influence and cultural and economic vitality of the Northern Territory.

02. Achieving a Shared Vision

This new dormitory construction plan is part of the Darwin City Deal, aimed at realizing a shared vision for Darwin's Central Business District. The Australian government has provided $97.3 million in funding for this $250 million total investment project, and the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) has also provided a $151.5 million loan. We expect the new campus to open in the third semester of 2024, offering students modern learning and living facilities, further enhancing our university's educational quality and international competitiveness.

Through this construction project, we will not only better meet students' accommodation needs but also attract more international students to study in Darwin, injecting new vitality into the economic and cultural development of the Northern Territory. The new dormitory will provide students with an ideal living environment, helping everyone better integrate into campus life and focus on their studies and personal development. We look forward to the completion of this new dormitory project, bringing an even better university life experience to students.
