Throughout the course, students will acquire foundation cognitive skills to source, distil and interpret relevant business and commercial information and data to work within the complex commercialcontexts of new ventures or business growth opportunities. They will be able to identify business opportunities and conceive innovative ideas and ventures drawing on rudimentary problem-solving strategies. They will be introduced to business concepts that facilitate interaction and communication with others so that they can operate with competence in a collaborative team context. A graduate of the course will be able to make sound choices based on ethical standards to guide their entrepreneurial practice and business activities. Now more than ever the demands of contemporary business and commercial activities require creativity and innovation to drive growth and sustainability. Building a business requires an orientation toward personal responsibility and initiative. Entrepreneurs need to be able to work both autonomously and in collaboration. Their capacity for the exercise of judgement can be supported by a grounding in the fundamentals of management and entrepreneurship. The Diploma of Entrepreneurship and Innovationwill therefore provide the foundation for students’ future development of more complex critical perspectives and creative responses.Central to the challenge that Australia faces for successful development of innovation in business is the absence of a cohort of entrepreneurs who will become the principle generators of meaningful and sustainable employment for the wider community. The Diploma of Entrepreneurship and Innovation is structured so that students build the knowledge and practice the application of that knowledge to business innovation and entrepreneurial endeavours. The goal is to form student capabilities so they canenter work in entrepreneurial organisations and/or initiate their own ventures.[105689M]
