Job Description

  • Examining topographical, physical and soil characteristics of farmland to determine its most effective use and identify nutrient deficiencies
  • Assisting in developing new methods of planting, fertilising, harvesting and processing crops to achieve optimum land usage
  • Identifying pathogenic micro-organisms and insects, parasites, fungi and weeds harmful to crops and livestock, and assisting in devising methods of control
  • Analysing produce to set and maintain standards of quality
  • Inspecting livestock to gauge the effectiveness of feed formulae
  • Assisting in controlled breeding experiments to develop improved crop and livestock strains
  • Arranging the supply of drugs, vaccines and other chemicals to Farmers and Farm Managers, and giving advice on their use
  • Collecting and collating data for research
  • Planning slaughtering, harvesting and other aspects of production processes
  • May advise producers on farming techniques and management

Eligibility Assessment

  • The declared occupation falls under VETASSESS Group D, and one of the education or employment requirements for the corresponding pathway must be met to receive a positive assessment.

Assessment Steps

  1. Confirm the nominated occupation belongs to Group D on the VETASSESS website.
  2. Download and read the occupation Information Sheet/Fact Sheet to understand the definition of highly relevant field and examples of duties.
  3. Select a pathway (1-4) based on educational background and major.
  4. Gather educational qualification and employment supporting documents.
  5. Submit the Full Skills Assessment online and upload all documents.
  6. VETASSESS reviews the educational level, relevance of the field of study, and the duration, relevance, and timeframe of work experience.
  7. Receive the outcome letter stating whether it is a Positive Assessment and the Date Deemed Skilled.

Assessment Requirements

  • Pathway 1: Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV or higher qualification, majoring in a highly relevant field. Must have at least 3 years of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation, with duties meeting ANZSCO requirements.
  • Pathway 2: Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV or higher qualification, majoring in a highly relevant field. Must have at least 2 years of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation.
  • Pathway 3: Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV or higher qualification, majoring in a non-highly relevant field. Must have at least 1 year of highly relevant paid employment within the last 5 years after graduation.
  • Pathway 4: Hold at least an AQF Certificate IV or higher qualification. Must have a cumulative total of at least 4 years of highly relevant paid employment, with at least 1 year being post-qualification and within the last 5 years.
  • Required documents include proof of identity, educational documents, employment proof, English translations, CV, and self-employment related materials (if applicable).
  • No uniform English language requirement, but non-English documents must include certified translations.
  • All work experience must be paid; part-time work is acceptable but must meet the required hourly standards.
