We are writing to inform you of important changes affecting students you have recruited into the Graduate Diploma of Teaching (GDOT) program for Terms 3 and 5, 2025.
What’s changed?
Due to recent decisions by education authorities in the ACT, NSW, and Victoria, students enrolled in the GDOT program now face placement restrictions in these states. These changes are outside the control of Southern Cross University and impact students’ ability to complete mandatory professional experience placements in their home state.
Student communications:
All affected students are being contacted directly by the University with a detailed outline of their options and a comprehensive FAQ, attached for references. The FAQ addresses common questions about teacher registration, placement eligibility, credit transfer, and the process for transferring to the Master of Teaching program.
Student options:
Advice to students includes the following options:
- Remain in the GDOT and travel interstate for placements (with limited travel/accommodation support available).
- Transfer to the Master of Teaching (MTeach), which allows placements in their home state/territory. The transfer will occur for Term 1, 2026, and credit will be given for completed GDOT units.
- Decline the GDOT offer and withdraw, with a full refund of prepaid fees.
- How you can help:
- Please familiarise yourself with the student FAQ included so you can confidently answer student queries.
- Encourage students to respond to the options form by the deadline provided in their communication.
- Reassure students that the University is committed to supporting them through this transition, including assistance with course transfers, placement arrangements, and refunds where applicable.
