Unit课程

KAA315

This unit provides an opportunity for students to undertake work integrated learning in the fields of science and engineering to support preparation for the world of work. This may take the form of a work placement that provides an opportunity for students to put into practice their knowledge, skills dispositions and qualities. It may include professional work within the University, government agency or business within an appropriate laboratory or industrial setting or working in a small group for an organisation. The aim of work integrated learning is to enable students to develop a sound understanding of the role and relevance of science and engineering in meeting business needs by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications and experiences in an authentic context. Students will have the opportunity to engage in problem-solving, investigate, or undertake a task whilst demonstrating personal and professional responsibility, including self-motivation and independent learning, working cooperatively and respectfully with colleagues, and exercising professional judgement within relevant codes of ethics. The work placement experience will help students gain an improved knowledge of organisations that employ science and engineering graduates, workplace culture and career pathways. Students will develop a richer appreciation of the graduate qualities required for science and engineering professionals, participate in work teams, comply with norms and rules of the business, and recognise personal strengths and areas for development through personal reflection and feedback from their host organisation. Students will cooperate within groups and adopt and practise professional ethics that influence work behaviour. The work placement will consist of 70 hours (Weeks 4 鈥?12 inclusive). The responsibility for researching, planning and securing of a relevant professional work placement will reside with the student whilst liaising with a discipline representative. The work placement requires the approval of the Unit Coordinator. Unit enrolment requires students to successfully complete two early engagement activities as part of securing a successful work placement by the end of Week 3.
