In this unit, students will develop the ability to analyse and solve problems involving particles and rigid bodies in plane motion and be prepared to study higher level of machine dynamics (i.e. Machine Dynamics-2). Students will also gain the ability to handle basic vibration problems.
Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO)
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
1. Apply fundamentals of kinematics of particles in plane motion in different coordinates systems (K1, K2, K3, S1, S2)
2. Analyse motion of finite rigid bodies using relative motion concept (K1, K2, K3, S1, S2)
3. Apply relevant standards and codes of practice in solving the kinetics problems as well as vibrations (K3, S1, S3)
4. Analyse motion of finite rigid bodies using work-energy and impulse-momentum concept (K1, K2, K3, S1, S2)
5. Safely execute experiments, analyse and interpret results and errors, and formulate conclusions as individual or part of a team (K2, K6, S1, A7)
6. Generate high quality reports (A2, A7)
