 在饮食前后,以及如厕后勤用肥皂和水洗手;

避免与旁人的物理接触(包括碰触、亲吻、拥抱,和其它形式的亲密接触);

如果你有任何关于学习计划的问题或挑战,请通过u.connect@utas.edu.au联系我们。我们将尽我们所能为你的学习提供支持。

由于疫情是一个持续变化的情况,我们将对收集到的信息保持更新并及时通知你。

Update on Coronavirus

(Updated 30th Jan 2020

On behalf of University of Tasmania, we are looking forward to welcoming you to campus in 2020.

Diversity makes our university stronger, and we are proud that our students come from many parts of the world.

As we prepare for the new academic year, we are mindful that at this time you may be concerned about the global response to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

We wish to reassure you that our university continues to work with Public Health as we actively monitor the outbreak in China.

The Health Department's current advice, is that travellers to Australia from Hubei Province be isolated in their homes for 14 days after leaving Hubei Province, other than for seeking medical care. Also, that anyone who has been in contact with a confirmed case of novel coronavirus be isolated in their home for 14 days after exposure.

If someone in either of these situations starts to feel unwell, they should seek medical attention, but phone ahead to their GP or emergency department to tell them they are coming.

As a member of our community, we ask you to take particular care to follow health and government advisories closely and to do those things known to reduce the risk of contracting novel coronavirus and similar illnesses.

According to the Federal Department of Health fact sheet, practising good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene is the best defence against most viruses.

The Department encourages all students to:

• Wash their hands often with soap and water before and after eating as well as after attending the toilet;

• Avoid physical contact with others (including touching, kissing, hugging, and other forms of intimate contact);

• Cough and sneeze into their elbow.

Importantly, if you are experiencing fever, coughing or breathing, and have been in the city of Wuhan in the past two weeks, you should isolate yourself and contact a doctor immediately, but call ahead to tell them where they have been.

If you are not well and having trouble accessing medical attention, we want you to contact us on +61 3 6226 2600.
We are very happy to assist in linking you with local medical services, and have identified a number of practices ready to help.

If you have any issues or challenges to your plans to study with us, please contact us U.Connect@utas.edu.au.

We are very keen to support your studies in any way we can.

This is a constantly changing situation. We will keep you up to date as information comes to hand.

We expect 2020 classes to start as usual and our calendar of welcome events and activities to remain unaffected.

Our set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) is also a helpful resource:

Frequently Asked Questions

 Q  What is the novel coronavirus?

 There is an active outbreak of a novel coronavirus in China, originating from the city of Wuhan in Hubei Province. The majority of reported cases are from Wuhan, but there have been reports of individuals diagnosed with coronavirus outside of China, including within Australia.

 Q  What is the University of Tasmania doing about the coronavirus?

 The University is closely monitoring the progress of the coronavirus outbreak and providing advice to staff and students based on information from State, national and international health authorities.

 We have set up a helpline to provide support for students with immediate concerns or queries. Please call +61 3 6226 2600 to access this support.

 Q  Will any of the University’s teaching activities be affected?

 At this stage, regular classes are planned to continue as normal.

 Staff with student contact should undertake their regular activities unless they are experiencing symptoms or have had contact with someone with signs of the virus.

 Q  What is the current advice on novel coronavirus?

 The Health Department’s current advice, which was updated yesterday, is that returned travellers from Hubei Province be isolated in their homes for 14 days after leaving Hubei Province, other than for seeking medical care. Also, that anyone who has been in contact with a confirmed case of novel coronavirus be isolated in their home for 14 days after exposure.

 If someone in either of these situations starts to feel unwell, they should seek medical attention, but phone ahead to their GP or emergency department to tell them they are coming.

 This advice does not apply to people who have arrived from other parts of China.

 If you are not well and having trouble accessing medical attention, please contact us on +61 3 6226 2600.

 Out-of-hours care should be accessed at the Emergency Department of your local hospital.

 Q  What are the symptoms?

 Symptoms of coronavirus may include fever, cough, sore throat, nausea/vomiting and shortness of breath. Difficulty breathing is a sign of possible pneumonia and requires immediate medical attention.

 It can take up to 14 days for symptoms to show after a person has been infected.

 Those considered to be at high risk may have travelled from Wuhan in the Hubei Province of China recently; or have been in close contact with a confirmed case of the coronavirus.

 Q  How can we help prevent the spread of virus and seasonal illness?

Practising good hygiene is the best defence against most viruses and we encourage you to:

 Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze (with a flexed elbow or tissue, not your hand)

 Wash your hands often with soap and water

 Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever and cough

 Q  Where should I go for up-to-date information on the coronavirus?

• The University is closely monitoring and following advice from three primary sources.
Australian Government Department of Health:
https://www.health.gov.au/health-topics/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov
World Health Organization:
https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019
Smart Traveller:
https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/news-and-updates/novel-coronavirus-outbreak

 Q  Who should students contact with any concerns about commencing their studies or any other academic concerns?

 If students are experiencing any issues or challenges, we would ask them to contact us via U.Connect@utas.edu.au so we can make every effort to support their study.

 Q  We understand that some members of the University community may be experiencing anxiety or concern. We have dedicated counselling services in place for staff and students:

 Students who are concerned should make an appointment to talk to a counsellor as part of our free and confidential Counselling Services.

 Q  Who can I contact if I have any immediate concerns or queries?

 We have set up a helpline for any urgent concerns or queries that staff or students may have regarding the coronavirus. Please call +61 3 6226 2600 to access this support.
