In response to the Australian government's priority policies and to ensure a high-quality learning experience for students, UNSW has decided to close new overseas student (NOSC) applications for Term 1 and Term 2 of 2026 effective immediately.
The Apply Online system has been updated.
I. Exempt groups (not affected by the application closure)
The following students are exempt:
- UNSW College students applying to progress to Term 1/T2 of 2026 (apply via the UNSW College portal);
- Government/agency-sponsored students;
- Students from official articulation pathway institutions;
- Students studying in Australian high schools and applying via UAC;
- Students already studying at UNSW and continuing to further studies;
- Students applying through upcoming UNSW overseas official application day events;
- Online course applicants.
** The above groups need to apply for Term 3 2026 and indicate their desire to be considered for early admission to Term 1 or Term 2 via the Admissions Enquiry Form.
II. Impact on 2026 international applicants
- Submitted and complete applications for Term 1/T2 will still be assessed in subsequent Grouped Offer Rounds (if course capacity allows).
- Submitted but incomplete applications must be completed by the deadline; otherwise, the opportunity will be missed.
- Many undergraduate and some postgraduate courses (especially in engineering, arts, design, and architecture) are full, and related applications will be automatically deferred to Term 3 2026. Apply Online will update the status by Friday, October 10, 2025.
- The first round of Term 3 2026 offers will be released on Thursday, November 20, 2025.
- Existing offers and conditional offers (language / GS) remain valid; students are encouraged to meet the offer conditions as soon as possible.
- UNSW will begin issuing general and grouped offers for Term 3 2026 from November 2025.
- Bachelor of Engineering (3707) and related double degrees will be included in the Grouped Offer Round for Term 3 2026, with offers made based on competitive ranking.
- Deferment requests to Term 1/T2 2026 will still be considered but are not guaranteed.
- Enrollment dates for all 2026 terms are Monday, October 20, 2025.

Important update about UNSW Sydney 2026 intakes
Thanks to your continued advocacy, UNSW Sydney remains a highly sought after destination for study in 2026. In alignment with government priorities and our commitment to delivering a high-quality experience for all students, we have made the decision to close new applications for New Overseas Student Commencements (NOSC) forTerm 1, 2026andTerm 2, 2026. This close will take place on the UNSW Apply Online platform immediately.
Are there any exemptions to the closure?
The following student cohorts, primarily determined by the Australian Government’s non-NOSC definitions, will be exempt from the closure:
- Existing UNSW College students seeking progression toTerm 1, 2026andTerm 2, 2026(Application is via the UNSW College portal).
- Sponsored students.
- Students from recognisedUNSW articulation pathways.
- High school students studying in Australia and applicants applying via the Universities Admission Centre (UAC).
- Students studying at UNSW and continuing onto further study.
- Students who apply through an upcoming UNSW owned in-country Application Day event.
- Fully online programs.Students defined above as exempt should apply forTerm 3, 2026and indicate their desire to be assessed for aTerm 1, 2026orTerm 2, 2026commencement via theAdmissions Enquiry Form.
What this means for 2026 international applicants
Submitted, complete applications for Term 1, 2026 and Term 2, 2026 will still be assessed and considered for an offer in an upcoming round (including grouped rounds) where program capacity allows.
Applications for Term 1, 2026 and Term 2, 2026 that have been submitted but are incomplete must provide all documentation by the relevant offer round deadline. We recommend that applicants submit this information as soon as possible for their best chance to secure an offer.
Many undergraduate programs across the University as well as postgraduate programs in Engineering, and Arts, Design and Architecture, have reached Term 1, 2026 and Term 2, 2026 capacity with limited offers to be released. Applications (complete or incomplete) for programs that have reached Term 1, 2026 and Term 2, 2026 capacity will be moved to the next available intake. Students will be able to see if their application has been moved to Term 3, 2026 by logging into Apply Online, which will be updated by Friday, 10 October 2025. The first round of Term 3, 2026 offers for these applicants to be made on Thursday, 20 November 2025.
Existing offers and conditional offers (English Language & Genuine Student) for Term 1, 2026 and Term 2, 2026 remain valid, and we encourage these offer holders to meet the conditions of their offer as soon as possible and prior to their offer expiring.
UNSW Admissions will make offers for Term 3, 2026 through general and grouped rounds from November 2025. View the updated 2026 offer schedule.
Bachelor of Engineering (3707) and associated double degree programs Term 3, 2026 offers will now be considered and released as part of our grouped offer round process. This will follow our previously advised Grouped Offer Round guidance with offers made on a competitive benchmarking of applicants.
Deferment requests to Term 1, 2026 or Term 2, 2026 will still be considered but are not guaranteed.
Enrolments for all 2026 terms will open on Monday, 20 October 2025.
UNSW Canberra, AGSM, Higher Degree Research, Study abroad and non-award students are not impacted, and processes and deadlines remain the same.
