1. Regarding the expiration rules for some admissions in S2 2025
As Semester 2, 2025 approaches and considering the time required for student visa processing, the University of Sydney has recently terminated conditional offers held by applicants who are shown as 'offshore status' in the system.

Postgraduate special admission process
As students are about to receive their penultimate semester results, we encourage you to advise students to take advantage of our special admission process (Special Admissions Process) to receive an early admission notice for Semester 1, 2026 (Semester 1, 2026).
Students currently enrolled at the University of Sydney (USYD) and planning to continue postgraduate studies in Semester 1, 2026, if eligible, can also apply for the onshore special admission process (Onshore Special Admissions Process).
As current students of the University of Sydney,they have access to a wider range of course options, with adjusted admission score requirements (for example, MOC and MCS no longer require 5 points higher than the admission requirements), and the application materials are more simplified.
They do not need to submit transcripts, only fill out an application form, as we can directly access their academic records at the university.

Adjustments to postgraduate education courses (applicable to Semester 2, 2025)
In a recent comprehensive review of the Master of Education and its nested courses (embedded qualifications), we have updated the admission requirements for each stream. The adjustments apply to all streams, including the general version (no stream), special and inclusive education, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), educational leadership, international education, sports coaching, educational psychology, etc., with the aim of ensuring consistency between admission standards and the background of applicants and their ability to study the courses.
Below are the updated admission requirements for **Master of Education (all streams)**:
- Obtain an honours bachelor's degree in education or higher from the University of Sydney or equivalent institutions; or
- Complete a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies consistent with the applied stream (if applicable); or

This change in admission requirements does not apply to the following situations:
- Applicants who have already received a valid unconditional offer (Unconditional Offer);
- Applicants with CET (language direct entry class) packaged offers;
- Offers that have already been accepted.
However, all applications that have not yet issued unconditional offers, including those submitted before April 29, 2025, will be reassessed according to the new admission requirements.

For postgraduate education courses for admission in 2026, relevant applications will be temporarily put on hold.
We will provide further updates in August 2025.

As Semester 2, 2025 approaches and considering the time required for student visa processing, we have recently lapsed conditional offers for applicants who are currently offshore, as indicated by our system.
Please note that the following conditional offers remain active:
- USYD students with conditional offers pending Semester 1 results

Postgraduate Education Degree Changes for Semester 2 2025
Following a recent review of the Master of Education and embedded qualifications across all streams—including the general unstreamed version, as well as Special and Inclusive Education, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Educational Leadership, International Education, Sports Coaching and Educational Psychology, we have made some changes to the admissions criteria for these degrees to ensure that the requirements reflect the cognate background and qualifications required for success in candidature.
Please see below for the updated admission requirements for the Master of Education (all streams):
- a bachelor honours degree in Education or higher, from the University of Sydney, or equivalent; or
- completion of the embedded Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies in the same stream as that in which the applicant wishes to proceed (if applicable); or equivalent qualification.
This change will not apply to current active unconditional offers, CET packaged offers or offers that have already been accepted. However, any applications that have not yet been issued an unconditional offer, including those submitted prior to 29 April 2025, will be assessed under the new application criteria.
Additionally, the University has decided to discontinue admission to the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies across all streams. As a result, any applications that have not yet received an unconditional offer for this degree will be withdrawn and offered the option to be assessed for admission to the Master of Education or Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies.
Please also note that current 2025 offers for the Master of Education and Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies will be valid only for the intake specified in the letter of offer. Deferral requests will not be accepted for later intakes.
Applications submitted for 2026 entry to postgraduate Education degrees will remain on hold. We will provide an update in August 2025.
