1. Updates to Nursing Degrees

In response to the latest practice trends in the nursing, health, and education industries, the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney has made significant adjustments to the core learning units and professional practice internship periods (i.e., 'Work Integrated Learning', abbreviated as WIL) of its nursing degree programs.
These changes comply with the latest accreditation standards of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC).

Below is a brief explanation of the key adjustments to the nursing courses. All affected applicants will receive individual notifications in the near future:

2. Undergraduate Program Updates

New ATAR Requirements for International Undergraduate Applications in 2026

The University will adjust the admission criteria for international students for the following programs in 2026, with the changes officially taking effect from Monday, June 2, 2025, applicable to new applications submitted for the first semester of 2026 and beyond.

Explanation of the applicability of changes:

Direct Applications

  1. If the application is submitted on or after June 2, 2025, the new standards apply;
  2. If the application is submitted before June 2, 2025, the old standards apply;
  3. Defer requests: If a student applies for deferral before June 2, the old standards apply; if a student applies for deferral on or after June 2, and the original application meets the old standards, the University will recognize the original assessment result; if a student applies for deferral on or after June 2, but the original application does not meet the old standards, the new standards must be met.

University of Sydney Foundation Program (USFP) Packaged Applications

  1. All packaged applications for the first semester of 2026 will be subject to the old standards;
  2. All packaged applications for the second semester of 2026 and beyond (regardless of submission time) will also be subject to the old standards;
  3. Deferral rules are the same as above.

High Achievers Preparation Program (HAPP)

  1. From the first semester of 2026, the new standards will officially take effect on June 2;
  2. If the HAPP packaged application is submitted before June 2, the old standards apply;
  3. If the HAPP packaged application is submitted on or after June 2, the new standards apply.


3. Updates to Undergraduate Strict Quota Degrees for the First Semester of 2026

For undergraduate quota courses (Strict Quota Degrees) for the first semester of 2026 (Semester 1, 2026), the University will adopt a rolling offers approach for admissions.

Once the number of admissions for a course reaches 50% of its total quota, the remaining admissions for that course will be changed to offer rounds.


The admission status of each quota course will be updated regularly.

As of May 12, 2025, the latest status of each quota course is as follows:

4. Undergraduate Joint Program Assessment Update

1. Minimum Study Duration Requirement:

  • Students must complete at least two years of the joint program to be eligible to apply for direct entry.
  • If only one year of study is completed, direct admission will not be granted, but a conditional offer will be given, with the condition being the completion of the second year of study.

2. Program Type Restrictions:
Joint programs issued by the following types of institutions or teaching methods will not be accepted:

  • i. School of Continuing Studies
  • ii. Adult Education
  • iii. Self-Study, Evening Study
  • iv. Correspondence/Distance
  • v. TV/Radio Program

3. Document Submission Requirements:
Applicants must submit an official enrolment letter issued by the Registrar’s Office of the degree-awarding institution, which must include the following information:

  • Student's full name
  • Degree name(s)
  • Full course duration
  • Country or location(s) where the studies were undertaken
  • Medium of language instruction
  • If applicable, confirmation of partnership with a specific foreign institution
  • Credit points required for each part of enrolment within the program
Please note: Different joint program structures may lead to different assessment outcomes.


5. Postgraduate Program Updates

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) 2026

Applications for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program for 2026 are now open. The latest Admissions Guide has been published on the course page of the University of Sydney's official website.

Please encourage interested students to review the relevant guide as soon as possible and submit a complete application by September 15, 2025.


Postgraduate Education Courses (covering all directions)

The Sydney School of Education and Social Work is currently finalizing revisions to the admission requirements for the Master of Education and its nested courses in all directions, including but not limited to:

  • General Education
  • Special and Inclusive Education
  • TESOL
  • Educational Leadership
  • Educational Psychology

This revision aims to better match the admission standards of each direction with the academic background and competency requirements of applicants, to enhance student success rates in each program.


Important changes are as follows:

  • From the effective date of this revision, all batches for the second semester of 2025 (Semester 2, 2025) and beyond (including applications deferred to 2026) will no longer be reviewed.
  • However, CET packaged offers that have been completed and accepted before this decision was made will still be valid and retained.


Notice of Termination of the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies Program

After a comprehensive evaluation, the School has decided to officially cancel all directions of the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies from April 29, 2025.

Therefore, all related applications that have not yet received unconditional offers will no longer be processed.

Master of Diagnostic Radiography

The Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney has reviewed the Master of Diagnostic Radiography program to align the clinical internship duration with the requirements of the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA).

  • The clinical internship hours have been adjusted from 770 hours to 1050 hours to meet the professional accreditation standards for clinical competence.

Applications for this course for international students opened on May 5, 2025, and will close on August 31, 2025..
As this course is a strictly quota-limited (Strict Quota) postgraduate degree, it is recommended to submit the student's complete application materials as early as possible.



First Semester of 2026—Latest Updates on Postgraduate Strict Quota Degrees

Currently, most postgraduate courses for the first semester of 2026 are issuing unconditional offers on a rolling basis.

  • Once the admission quota for a course reaches 50%, its admissions will switch to offer rounds.
  • The status of each quota course will be reviewed regularly and included in the monthly Admissions updates.

The courses involved in this round include: relevant master's courses and their nested graduate certificates (Graduate Certificate) and graduate diplomas (Graduate Diploma).

6. Key Admission Deadlines Related to the Second Semester of 2025

  • If students fail to obtain a visa and arrive in Australia by August 15, 2025, it is recommended that they apply for a suspension of studies as soon as possible.
  • Students should try to arrive on campus by the start of the course, and no later than August 15, 2025, to avoid adverse effects on their studies or visa status.
